So in NC your license plate is tagged if you have a CHP to make it easy for the State Troopers to be aware of the fact that you may be armed. Is that information readily available to all other police agencies?

Whenever I need to get a rental car at the airport I have to drive past a sign supposedly not allowing firearms on the property even though you can check them in at the airport under federal law. Nobody could ever tell me who placed the sign with what authority.

It is linked to your plates so the police wire you another ticket if the first words out of your mouth are not "I have a permit, I'm carrying." The dirty to disable law only applies to those with a permit it doesn't apply to anyone illegally carrying a gun. Criminals cannot be required to incriminate themselves.
This the duty to disclose law must be repealed. Not even far left MA has duty to disclose.

I never looked at it from that perspective, I guess you are correct to say that if I was carrying without a permit I be incriminating myself by declaring the gun. I never saw much harm in disclosing and have in practice found that most LEO almost visibly relax once I do since it's a fairly reliable signal that the encounter will be stressfree and pleasant.

A non resident permit from another state gets around the permit being linked to your DL. The major downside to this is the need for purchase permits. That reminds me they text me the other day and I need to get down there and pick up my purchase permits.

Last time we discussed the gun buster sign at RDU (in the old place) nobody could really tell who put up the sign with what authority.

This^, Running a vehicle plate doesn't tell you who's driving it.

Well, you can find out if the registered owner has a permit from the plate. But you are right, that does not mean they are the one driving.

It is also tied to your passport.

Not according to my last encounter coming back from Canada. Of course, they did tie an outstanding arrest warrant for a violent felon to my passport (not me, though), so who knows
A member on here posted about traveling to Canada by car and was repeatedly asked if he had any weapons in the car by Canadian border officers, before a US officer came over and explained why.

they cant mail you a ticket for failure to disclose as you dont have to DISCLOSE if you are NOT carrying at that time even if you have a CHL

I crossed into Canada without any issue (and no questions about weapons) but coming back got cuffed at gun point by US BP. Once everything was straightened out, they showed me what my passport was linked to and there was no reference to my NC CHP. But, like I said, it showed I was a violent felon on the run, so maybe they linked my CHP with the wrong Bocephus

Just relaying what was posted on here. No first hand experience.

I was told that just having a permit triggered the disclosure. Good to know that isn't true.
But criminals carrying don't have to disclose either. [emoji3]

There's a bunch of anecdotal evidence that oftentimes LEO let stuff slide once you identify yourself as a person who can satisfy a background check.
That was my experience with a state trooper. His attitude completely changed (for the better) when I notified him I had a concealed weapon and permit.
