Driving to VA and staying with my son for a week. Does VA recognize a NC permit? Looking on line I found several articles that stated that VA did not recognize NC permits but they were from several years ago.

Thanks

Never mind, I looked at the state of NC website which has a list of reciprocity states and VA is listed.

Virginia? Yes, you're good. But be careful if you're going to Northern Virginia, the NoVa counties have a lot of Maryland-ish restrictions (source: I'm from MD)
Like what?

Like what?
I'd have to go look some up, but there are several jurisdictions (Fairfax, Arlington, I think Loudon counties, cities of Arlington and Alexandria and probably others) with local restrictions on what you can carry and where. Like banned in city or county parks, or all county property, restrictions near schools and hospitals and such... It's a mess, and if you're heading into the greater DC area you need to check on each area's website for restrictions.

Actually this is a good idea, I'm going to start compiling a list of links to all that BS for myself (I live most of the time in that region), I'll share that as I get it put together.

I just spent the last 3 years living in Loudoun County (Leesburg and Ashburn) and I never heard/saw anything more restrictive that what the state already had in place (I also didn’t go out of my way to look for that kind of info either, so…) but I did just do some reading on the preemption laws that assclown Northam loosened up for the state.

Looks like local governments now have the power to restrict in these locations. And you can guarantee if anyone in VA is going to do it, it will be NOVA.

(i) in any building, or part thereof, owned or used by such locality, or by any authority or local governmental entity created or controlled by the locality, for governmental purposes;

(ii) in any public park owned or operated by the locality, or by any authority or local governmental entity created or controlled by the locality;

(iii) in any recreation or community center facility operated by the locality, or by any authority or local governmental entity created or controlled by the locality; or

(iv) in any public street, road, alley, or sidewalk or public right-of-way or any other place of whatever nature that is open to the public and is being used by or is adjacent to a permitted event or an event that would otherwise require a permit.

So Loudon didn't tighten things up? I heard they were talking about it, but haven't really been following (I'm in Montgomery County, where they'd ban all scary boomsticks if they could, so we have enough to push back against on our own). Please share any links, I'm going to put them up on MD Shooters for reference there too...

If they did, I never heard or saw anything about it. But really not to many of those exceptions would have applied to anywhere I went. Never had any business in any local government building, didn’t ever go to local parks, and any of the public street events that I have gone to were some kind of beer or wine event and I would have been partaking so not carrying anyway.

I commuted for work to Montgomery county for work every day, long drive but we’ll worth it to not have to live in that communist state (even though VA was only slightly better)

I won't be referencing any sources but I live in Fairfax Co and all I do is just not care and carry what I want. Hasn't been an issue.

Like @Derek8404 said, I have never heard or seen any county specific restrictions. I do have a VA permit, among other government issued statuses, but my choices would be the same if I was just on an NC permit. You're still covered.
