NCFubar’s LC Smith 0 grade restoration

Beautiful work!

What they said!

I do not enjoy putting them back together, especially old Elsie’s. If you screwdriver slips, bad. If you drop the stock, bad. All kinds of bad can happen if if you’ve done a good job up to this point, and the stakes are the highest at the end.
It is done, and no post reassembly issues.

Did you rerun the color case hardening or is it just the sealing makes the colors pop and look deeper?

Same colors. Just like with wood, when the item is “wet” or coated, things darken, regardless of the substance used. I have used lacquer for brass, KG Super Clear, Cerakote Armorer Clear, none of which have any degree of tint. Some people just oil and leave it be.

Another beauty!

I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........................
Better not wait … Bill is gonna get famous and make it hard to get on his waiting list (and his prices go up big time). We’re gonna be able to say “I knew him back before …”. Not many people can take a 127 year old firearm that was actually used for hunting and such and bring it back to better than new condition. If you got something better get in line!

A little thing Bill is failing to tell the forum … A few others in the smithing community have “noticed” Bill’s talents and have nudged him to apply to a custom gunmakers guild (Doug Turnbull is a member of the guild). He’s just starting the process and he‘s using his barrel work on this old girl as one of his samples to the committee for review.
