My vehicle was broken into a while back, they got a decent amount of good shithings including my icom ID-51A. I'm thinking of replacing it with the same thing, since it does everything going I want it to do.

Anything y'all have found comparable to that one that I should look at?

If you liked it, I'd replace it. Check HRO for factory refurb with full warranty or open box full warranty for a discount.

Edit: My favorite HT is the Kenwood TH-F6A. I don't use D-Star.

That radio is among the best and the reviews all say the same thing. Get another if you liked it. The new Kenwood Dstar radios might be better....

But the Icom is cheaper

I do like D-Star it's been pretty fun, and another option in the tool box never hurts in my opinion.

Haven't checked out the Kenwood options but will shortly. Thanks for bringing them up!

Gonna stick to the ID-51a plus, ordered one in red just for s&g's.

however, now I find myself wanting a more permanent solution and gravitating towards a id-5100.

A good friend has a icom 880H he's not using anymore, looks like I'll be picking that up instead for now. Radios are expensive when uncle sugar ain't paying for them for you to play with.

I have an 880H in my car and I really like it, it has 2nd generation DStar which means it lacks some of the GPS enabled "find a repeater" functions but it isn't difficult to work with. I started with a Kenwood th-f6a and it is a damn fine radio. I like the audio quality of Kenwood over the icom, but both are fine.

One thing I will warn you about with the 880H, is that the users manual (at least the one I have) was written for the Japanese version radio and some of the functions are different,
