My Sprinter RV running board treads are shot. They are basically grip tape stickers. I'm not paying what RoadTrek wants to replace them. I'd like something more durable anyway. Maybe something rubberized? Like truck bed mat material and glue it down? It has to be durable, sunlight resistant, and have grip when wet...

Thoughts?

If you can find rhino liner material that’d be the best bet. I haven’t seen anything that really matched it yet though as far as durability.

Several years ago I got some spray cans of bed liner at Wal-Mart if I remember correctly.

So I ordered a rubber diamond plate material. Thinking i will install it with pure silicone. Should adhere well, be waterproof, and can be removed when it wears to the point of needing replacement again. Any reason i shouldn't go that route?

Yup.
I used Rustolium spray on bedliner on the rails when I built up my '10 Rubicon. Great stuff. Easy to use. (I used semigloss on the interior portion of the rails for easier clean out.)

Nope. That will be fine.
I had the same problem with the running boards on my conversion van/shaggin' waggon'. But I just replaced it with more sandpaper-tape I got from Lowes or somewhere. It would last about 3 years.
Your solution seems more long term, but the silicone adhesive might be a bit weak. It may let go sooner than you expect. Liquid nails would work much better, but it would be hell to change in 5 years or whatever if/when they wore out.
Being hard rubber pads, is it possible to use some nice stainless hardware and bolt them on?

the pads are soft rubber rolls... I'm thinking if I bed the whole thing in silicone it will be fairly bulletproof...
