I’d like to see if they continue at this price in a few years. While I like the older marlins. Now that the Henry Big Boy X has side loading gate, the ability to unload without cycling every round through the action, and threaded barrel, I think Henry will give them a run for the money. But it is a good looking rifle. What say you?

I was seriously considering the 1884 Dark series but when actually had cash the price shot up and I held off....

For people that want one if these things, I think initially this will kind of be the '2nd' choice after the Henry.
That is, until they get tired of waiting for the Henry to actually be available somewhere. Plus, if this starts getting reviews of being good-as/better than the Henry, then it's game on.
I get it. Henry is a small company and I like them. But they had better find a way to satisfy market demand or they're gonna lose this part of it. Do they really sell that many 22's that they were so busy and couldn't take a month and build some 357's? They've had plenty of time to address this but it's almost like they were somewhat content with providing limited supply as that kept the price at msrp+.

The Dark series is a good looking rifle. But you are right, man the prices on those things is crazy.

Very fair point about supply. I kept signing up at a couple places for the notify me when back in stock. I got several notifications but wasn’t quick enough several times. I finally got one below MSRP, but I wasn’t in any hurry. Like you said, people will get tired of waiting. If Ruger/Marlin can flood the market they will make a killing.

Edited for clarity

I would go for the Henry as I think the action is smoother than the 1894. The Marlin now has a cross bolt safety as well which I am not fond of.

I think they would sell more of them if they made it with a magazine that held 10 rounds for use in SASS Cowboy Shooting matches. I had an old JM Marlin in 357 that I got for SASS but eventually gave it to a good friend because of the magazine limitations. It did not do very well with 38 Special ammo, so using short rounds was not a reliable option.

They are $300 cheaper ($999) at CDNN Sports. It's a legit company I've bought from in the past. https://www.cdnnsports.com/firearms/hunting-rifles/marlin-1894-classic-44mag-blue.html

Demand for lever guns in revolver calibers is strong. Companies have not been able to meet demand for this category for the last decade. Marlin/ Ruger will keep prices high until people stop buying
