I am new to these forums, “NC-rifle” is my handle since I only have rifles, no pistols.
I live 5 miles south of Greensboro, NC. I have lived here a few years, the only range I have used so far is Triple Target in Sophia, NC.
Currently I have a 16” AR-15 chambered in .223 Wylde with 1:8 twist and a 20” AR-15 chambered in 5.56 NATO with 1:7 twist. My next project will be a .308 Winchester caliber AR-10 platform, so expect some questions as my initial research shows these parts are not as standardized as the AR-15 platform.
The various ammo offerings in .223/5.56 are interesting, from 55gr FMJ “ball”, 50-up gr ballistic tip (V-max), and 55-77gr HPBT match (OTM). So that is a subject for me. But the .308 will be geared toward hunting, so soft point and A-max are on the list. I have heard the 7.62x51 NATO 147gr M80 ammo is typically cheap, but terrible for accuracy.
