New model Colt Anaconda sight issues

i would be interested to see what the crown on the barrel looks like. seems like everything else is pretty straight.

I was a QC tech in the barrel department of FN's Columbia SC plant for 10 years. I gave everything a good looking over with my eyes. Barrel appeared visually straight, timed well and tight to the frame, lands and grooves of the rifling appeared fine as did the recessed muzzle crown. I couldn't take any actual measurements of anything though. I'm guessing they button rifled the barrels. Even a small deviation of the drilling/rifling could cause major accuracy issues undetectable by the human eye.

I honestly doubt they will do anything to it. I'm considering just going tomorrow and buying the 629. I'll ditch the Anaconda at a big loss and lesson learned.

good luck, let’s hope they do you right.

Oh and forgot to mention....

The Colt CS rep told me they were about 45 days behind on looking at returns. Makes me wonder how much junk is coming back. With his estimation I should see my pistol back hopefully by the end of September?? Maybe??
Wonder if that is all the crap they put out before the new owners got themselves installed and in control.

Part of the delay is due to how the shop folks take their long summer vacations. Hope it gets fixed, or they cry Uncle and send you a new replacement.

Just recieved a notice that my Anaconda is on the way back from Colt. In the invoice it states "barrel re-crowned 8/15". I'm already calling BS on this one. If it still shoots the way it was shooting, it's going right back.

Guess I'll have to wait and see. I didn't see anything wrong with the way the barrel was crowned to begin with. Nothing visually detectable anyway.

That's their test target. I'm still calling BS until it shoots that good for me. I'm wondering if that's a freehand target or was the pistol in a ransom rest.
It's from a rest, says so on the target.

OK. Got to shoot it today. Looks much better than what it was. I did have to bump the rear sight slightly to the right but that's normal for me. I'm right handed and left eye dominant. The amount I had to move the rear sight to the right was only a click or two compared to previously where the rear sight fell out it was over so far.

First set of shots were perfect height wise but a little left. Couple of clicks to the right and I was pretty well on target. I was shooting free handed with a 2 hand grip at 15 yds.

I guess I didn't take a shot of the first target before I moved the rear to the right. This was my last group of the day. Six shots 240g Keith SWC on top of 19g AA#9.

At least I can hit paper now .

I agree with you, in my opinion it was more than the crown. But what ever they did, looks like they straightened it out. Nice shooting sir.

Come on man! give me some love?

Alright alright lol. You called the crown.

Is the barrel straight? Let's see a pic of that.

Maybe a couple shots of this area looking in either direction.

Edit: this is an example, not OPs actual gun

I stopped by a gun store today, fondled their Anaconda & to my eye, and like this pic, the barrel didn't look centered. The gun felt like it had a higher polish, and the cylinder slid in smoother than my early 90's Anaconda.

I will say that 19g of AA#9 with a 240g LSWC is a BRUTAL recoil. Now I'm looking for grips that cover the backstrap of the frame.

Anyone know of rubber grips that have a covered backstrap?

Got her all cleaned up. I put the new wooden grips and Wilson Combat sights back on it. Heading back out to the range tomorrow to try it out with the new parts back on it. Hopefully it still shoots good.

Didn't you just take these off your gun? I personally love the Pachmayr Grippers. They also make the backstrap flatter. Not a finger groove fan generally, but these worked great for my 686.

I did. For some reason the set I had gapped badly at the top rear of the grip. There was probably a 3/16" gap where they did not lay close to the frame. I liked the grips but my OCD just couldn't accept that gap. The grip didn't even come close to touching the frame where it's circled.

I'll take a chance if the money's right.

I'll sell it for what I've invested in it. It's brand new and I already bought new grips and sights for it. I even sent it on a cross country vacation to a spa in Conneticut. Will include factory test target and all original parts.

Asking only what I have invested so far and not a penny more. This gun can be yours for the petty price of $183,612.17. Don't let a deal like this pass you by.
