Hello all, my name is Luke and I am new to this forum. A friend of mine has blessed me with a single stage press and set of dies for a .38 special-talk about a great friend! I am currently in search of small pistol primers and some good powder for .38 Special, but know everyone else is also! Just figured I would post on here and put out a feeler for these components, where to look for them in these trying times, and also ask for any tips and advice you have for a newcomer. Any tips and tricks would be very much appreciated. Thanks and God bless

Primers are, by far, going to be the most difficult to find. Powder seems to come and go as far as availability goes. HP-38, Autocomp, and CFE Pistol are great powders for 38spl/357. For bullets, xtreme is the only place I've seen that has had any .357 rounds in stock. I think the most common bullet to use in 38 is 125gr. Looks like they've got some flat nose in stock right now. https://www.xtremebullets.com/

My number one go to for primers has been powdervalleyinc.com. Keep the product selection you want loaded up in a page and refresh every hour. It might take a month, but they usually get some in stock whereas near no one else does. It goes FAST! You can also only get one brick (1000) per product at a time. You pay a 20 dollar extra hazmat shipping charge per box, so you might as well go ahead and order powder or something else if you actually get some primers.

My other favorite sites for parts and such:
midwayusa.com

Powders I like for 38spl. Trailboss for soft loads, Clays for mid-range loads, BE86 for hotter loads.

Welcome to the forum, and good luck!

A bit of a drive from statesville but Cabelas had plenty of extreme 125gr bullets when I was there Wednesday.

This thread reminds me I have some Autocomp I need to post for sale.

while you are waiting on primers, pickup a bullet mold, melting pot, and some wheel weights and start casting your own projectiles.

If you decide to down this route, hit me up and I'll drop some wheel weight ingots in the mail for you.

.38 is pretty forgiving. Find a powder that works and start there , all the components are pretty easy to find except primers. Now is a frustrating time to look for primers or anything specific. Pick up book or two for reloading and do plenty of research - hopefully a few months into the new year stuff starts to come back
