Thinking about putting a set of night sights on a Glock 19 with a can.
Any suggestions?

You can customize the sights to your desire.

I bought some Night Fision sights for one of my Canik SF's and i love them. One of the guys here recommend them and i like bright lime green dot with a center green glow in the dark circle. If they have suppressor height sights i think they would work and are solid so far. I do abuse my guns pretty heavy and they haven't had issues. the biggest issue i had was Ryan at Apex Defense group put them on and he couldnt get the factory sights off. I think Canik both press fits and adds some permanent loctite. He earned his money that day.

Heard a retired cop telling a few people at gunstore how night sights were a gimmick bc after the first round is fired in the dark, your blind from the muzzle flash and won't see the sights either way... I've never tested this and I do have night sights on most of my guns but at 100$ or more, I've always wondered if he was on to something.

I quit putting night sights on my guns years ago. Here’s the thing about shooting at night, you should not be shooting something in complete darkness anyway because you need to be able to identify what your shooting at, and when you light it up with a weapon light, you’re not going to see that tritium.

The only scenario where night sights could give you a slight advantage is when you are in the dark but your target is lit up, say they are under a street light or something similar. Well that and they’re pretty helpful for finding your gun on your nightstand at night.

Only one way to find out...

Hit the range and shoot/test in the dark... You will probably be amazed at what you learn by doing it.

Let's see....how do I feel about these Useless Ass Night Sights?

Before you buy or install..come here and see how useless they are. We can prove it to you in 5 minutes. On the range....In the dark.
I always wondered what you thought about them. 😂

@knotrigh, sorry if I messed up your thread. Fwiw, I have ameriglo on mine and I like them for the big orange dot that my eyes can see.

Billy....they are not useless... you do not know what situation you are going to be in. Being able to see your sights and alignment is a good thing, I hope you think using your sights is a good thing. Saying they suck because of this situation or another is inaccurate. The 4 rules still apply.

Eh, they’re pretty useless. I don’t think it hurts to have them, but you won’t be any better off with them than someone without them.

I agree...
Easy to test/prove out. Anyone reading this can hit the range and shoot. Report back your findings in this thread.
Theories/opinions don't count...
Gotta hit the range and demonstrate.

Check out Truglo Tritium Pros, awesome sights for the price. I think they’re $68 on Amazon. I see no negatives aside from cost, I’d rather have the tritium and not need it kinda thing

You say you can see the orange dot/night sights...
Is this taking place while you are doing dryfire in a dark room, or is this taking place on a range during live fire in the darkness?

I only meant when I pick it up and look at it during the day or with the lights on inside my house, I've never done night time drills. The actual night sight might be dead by now (I wouldn't know), but I do like the bright orange paint on the front sight for my crappy eyes.

Not bashing you, just getting clarification on your post so we are comparing apples to apples...
Please try some live night fire in the dark if you can. It should be a useful, rewarding, and learning experience.

I understand, I'm no longer a shooter on a regular basis. I just try to chip in things I've seen and heard along the way. I don't have access to a range or extra ammo and I will never claim to be as knowledgeable as somebody like Billy who shoots regularly. I learn a ton from you guys daily.

My point is sometimes seeing/hearing things can be misleading. Only one way to actually find out... Do It...

DOING things to prove or disprovecan be enlightening and the results can easily be posted here for all to examine and learn from.

3-5 shots in the dark is minimal ammo expenditure to learn a bunch! Hopefully you can set aside a few rounds and maybe get on a range or get permission to use some private land to test this out. 30 minutes or less is all it will take.

Understood.

I put a night sight on the front of my 1911 because it was the only thing I found that had a giant dayglo orange ball on it. Would have been significantly cheaper if it didn't have that little spec of tritium or whatever it is in the middle of it.

• Did you find you are able to shoot it more accurately or ?

•Have you shot it at night since mounting?

Oh lawd, if you can't afford them don't buy them, If you can, they are nice. Gun fights don't happen at dark ranges. So i suggest when you do your testing tonight you do it in your house, outside your house. Especially in your bedroom with your lights off and look down a lit hallway/other room or from inside your dark living room looking out the front door to your lit up by a streetlight or a security light yard or parking area.. Now can you see your front sight? I know for me, my bright sights shine bright in my darkened room and i can see them FAR better because i need reading glasses to clearly see my front sight. So when i test in the dark i can at least see my sight and center it on the backlit target without my reading glasses. You don't need to go to a range to prove your night sights allow you to see your sights. You can do it in your car, in your house, where you are now. That first shot is the money shot. Be like Jack!

Night sights have their place. Indoor lighting can be enough to illuminate a threat but not enough to illuminate your sights depending on where you are in the structure. Also, outside at a gas station you'll find spots like this as well a moonlit nights, walking back from the theater at night with spaces between lights.. honestly, you'd be surprised how many scenarios night sights are a force multiplier. A flash light is a must and is much better but if you want every advantage, I see no reason not to have both. Many thoughts on this matter and everyone has an opinion on them. When the ball drops, muscle memory is much more important since you won't be able to line up your sight perfectly anyway so in the end who really cares?

I think we should get together and take the opportunity to do some testing. We'll find out a bunch by live fire. I volunteer my access to 60 acres with a nice shop building on it. We can shoot there at night no problem. We can set up some scenarios/tests and run them. The only way to validate or disprove all this is with live fire on the timer and see what the targets reveal. We can shoot, film it and post up results here. I'm just outside of the Charlotte area down in SC. Im willing to host if you are willing to contribute.
A great opportunity to add quality content to CFF!

Most would rather work it out on a keyboard...so...I predict..few takers.

Man that sounds fun, I am in! Now we need to find a time to do it. I have a rifle/pistol class Saturday morning. So probably cant do it Saturday night. I hope to hear from peoples bedroom testing tonight with their night sites and no night sights. Do you think i will see my sights differently at your place rather than my place? Do you think having a timer will force me to not see my sights? Are you a point shooter! BTW i have done several low light/no light classes at Apex Defense Group in the shoot house where i train and teach Concealed Carry.

The one difference in my place and your place appears to be we can pull the trigger at my place and you can't at yours.?

If you have the quals and skill set, why would doing some testing for the benefit of all of CFF readership be a bad thing?
We could possibly let some of the members submit a scenario for the testing and post results for everyone's benefit. If other members want to contribute/participate we could work out something.

We can shoot at the shoot house BUT at night it was only with suppressed weapons. Problem with much of that is we are geared for action, and i subscribe to the ALL THE LUMENS theory of flashlights. Meaning when i turn on that 1400 lumen light the night sights are irrelevant!
