Well the city of greensboro finally won. The Greensboro Gun show has been cancelled.....period. The coliseum sold the rights to the show to the city of greensboro.
And the city is now in control and of course......bad people....no gun show. Whats next?

Well, that sucks.

How much did the city fork out, $1.?

How does something owned by the city of greensboro(coliseum), sell something to the City of greensboro ?

Also, got a link so I can share with folks?

Did you know anyone can start a gun show?

ITs just a business held in a public space. Based on the zoning you my or my not need a permit. I was thinking about starting one for Precision Rifle or AR15's only but School got in the way.

"Also, got a link so I can share with folks?".... Got a letter from the promoter of the show. Greensboro has been trying for years to get rid of the show. It was great when they had the bridal show and the gun show the same weekend. Lots of lookers. I think they are going to look for a smaller venue to have it in. Hope this is not the end of an era of fun shows......hey, you remember when you could buy a firearm, ammunition and beef jerky at a public show, in a county owned facility?????????????? And the response is...No way.

Raise a toast tonight to the fun show!

i received the letter today and a deposit refund...

the GSO city council 'thought' they had control over it and were put plainly in their place..... now i guess they 'do' have control

the letter dated Dec 4 states

"The January show was already cancelled and the increased cost of having the show made it hard to continue.
All rights to have the gun show in the Coliseum were sold to the city of Greensboro."

a buy out ?? dunno.. but a BIG F U to 'mayor'....
.
The GSO gunshow website has not been updated as of this posting.

Got my letter today. My understanding is that the promoter sold the rights to the show to the city. In other words, the city bought out their contract. The promoter said they are looking for another venue. Good luck with that.

Sad day. This was the best show in the state for a number of years.

@cubrock
When we first moved here, I went to a couple gun shows in High Point. There’s an enormous exhibition hall that’s rarely used outside of four events in March/April and September/October. It is privately owned. Think the organizer would be interested in contacting them?

I talked to them about High Point a couple years ago. I can’t remember what they told me, but I do recall them saying proximity of enough parking was an issue. Whether they were talking about that exact venue or not, I can’t say. Of course, the conversation was academic to them back then, since they could still have a show at the coliseum, albeit with people complaining about admission and the cost for parking. Now, maybe they will be more motivated to find another venue. Or, maybe someone else will be.

As long as the event happens when there’s nothing else going on downtown (which is 95% of the year) there’s virtually unlimited free or cheap parking within easy walking distance.

I get it that the City of Greensboro owns the Coliseum, but what's stopping some private entity from finding another suitable location and having a show?

Nothing but someone having enough desire to so do.
It would be cool to see someone adapt to the times and reinvent the gun show. They've become a thing of the past (for serious gun folks) for many reasons. But I believe they aren't past the point of being obsolete. Just need to attract and entice the right vendors.

Needs to be a big piece of outside property procured for a weekend a couple times a year like the things that happen at Denton farm park. Come set up tents in rows and have at it. Moose lodge has been procured for several weekends in 2021 if I remember what @Lil D told me correctly. It’s good to do places like that but vendor space is just as limited as parking

That is correct, we will have 4 shows here next year as of right now. As for parking and more venue space we do have that field in the back and on the side, if it was deemed profitable, for the lodge, I’m sure they would allow it to be utilized. We had campers all over the place at the last show and cars everywhere lol.

Yeah I was shocked by the turnout at the last one. I don't know if Blakeshire have ever seen that kind of traffic.
