No trades?

I think the reason for that stipulation is based on the medium the ads are posted on (FB marketplace and CL). Unless I had very specific trade demands, there is no way I would leave myself open to the random emails asking if I would take used underwear, gum wrappers and grandma’s (RIP) dentures in trade

I think the reason it makes little sense to you is in these two post by you. In the first it worked out in your favor (rusted out Luv for a CJ 7). In the second post you state you would gladly take "someone's grandpa's evil rifle for a few chickens." The no trades doesn't work in your favor. I could be reading too much into your post though. Others have mentioned several reasons for a No Trades. The owner sets the terms.
I know. The seller sets the terms. I didn't know that but Draco told me.
I admit I've listed "interesting trades considered" I no longer do that as people offer magic beans and such. Now I say may be interested in trades...like mantoys, 4x4's or things that interest me.
I just feel that "NO TRADES" leaves no chance for a great deal. Each to his own.

...or getting taken to the cleaners. A great deal generally means someone comes out on the short end. No thanks.

I have a great deal for you. I will give you a brand new $50 bill for two old $100 bills. Grant was a real president. Franklin was not. You get new. I get old.

I do not like to cheat others and do not like to be cheated.

I know, I know. If you know what you are doing you will not be cheated. Do you really know exactly what you will receive in trade?

I don't cheat people either. Example: I saw a guy walking into the flea market with a 7600 pump rifle. I asked his price and he said 150.00. I paid him 225.00. He was dumfounded. I just knew it was worth 300 in its condition. I don't think I cheated him and neither did he.
I've lost in trades occasionally but usually win. I guess I like the thrill of what someone might trade. Not wanting to be aggravated with nonsense is understandable though.

Next ad I post I will just put "Will trade this gun for cash" that should satisfy everyone.
That’s why I sometimes say “Trades: cash, dinero, cold hard legal US tender...” :D

I'm generally a no trade individual, as I'm peculiar about used anything. Most people I've dealt with in the realm of trading want 100% retail value of their item, but only a marginal percentage of what I'm selling. I'm realistic with condition and value, and most don't like honesty when I tell them that condition is king.

Because not everyone is the same.
Some people might need cash, some people might have something exact in mind that they want and trading won't get them there.
most anything I have I would trade for something I’d rather have.
Somebody may have something I didn't know I wanted yet.
I like swappin
That's why I will usually say "tell me what you got; worst thing I say is 'no, thanks'".
Things that don't matter:
What I think about it.
"NO TRADES" leaves no chance for a great deal.
All the above for me. I prefer a trade and some money one way or the other to make everybody happy;)

That is not a gun-for-gun trade but a purchase with money. I have done a lot of that. That was good and honorable that you did not cheat him.

Now, let's talk about the weirdos that state "for trade only."

I rarely sell, let alone trade, but when I recently noticed I was shorter on large pistol primers than I liked & had 3K "extra" small rifle primers, I went the trade only route. With everything being sky high & scarce right now, I could've sold my SRP for a pretty penny, but then would then have to pay top dollar for the LPP. Very specific trade, but for this audience, very likely & didn't cost me anything but gas & lunch with some of our local-ish CFFers.

I'm thinking about selling a gun specifically to fund the purchase of another. I won't be averse to a trade, but only for the exact gun I intend to buy.

If I'm looking to sell because I want the cash for a specific reason, I feel like I have to specify "No trades" to beat back the crowd that wants to swap their trash for my treasure.

Keeps my inbox clean.
Exactly.

Lots on here list a "cash value" and a "trade value"... My experience has been, when offered a trade for my piece, they want "trade value" against my cash asking price, and in a lot of instances it's for an item they've had listed for a while and can't sell/trade anyway.
Still a decent site for acquiring fun stuff though

“No trades?!... but my ruger MK II is like new with only 62.000 rounds fired. Your cash price is rock bottom so I’ll need you to come up with a little bit of cash on top of my trade”

I do like to trade. For cash. I can then take that cash and *trade* it for what I want. :D
