Not a good week for my son

At least he's ok
As for why he did - I think it's important to know if he's lying to you or not
Again, glad he's ok

Not sure, but I think there is some magical age when kids stop lying to their parents about the dumb shit they do. For me it was probably around 23. When you become comfortable in your independence there becomes no need to hide the dumb shit.

Or do you get to that age and just quit doing stupid stuff?

Yes, accidents happen, and as you get older and more independent you should just cough up to it and say, "yeah I messed up and ____________" and not the "well they just broke out of nowhere because I got my rear bumper tapped!"

It's at whatever the age that they stop putting their hand out for support.

Regardless why he ran the stop sign, legally it is still his fault.
His insurance company did total the car and is paying out just over what he owes on it.
He still hasn't heard from Progressive regarding the first accident. He is getting his lawyer on that one too.
Glad to hear his insurance company is taking care of it to at least pay what he owes. Glad they are ok. Hope things go better for him...
