Congratulations #1gohunt 🏆 We will get a new target posted soon and start our next challenge. The challenge is open to anyone who wants to try. We enjoy shooting and having a good time. All scores are honor system. If you have never tried, please give it a try and make some new friends. 🙂

Standard CFF Monthly Rimfire Benchrest Challenge Rules

- Winner chooses the target and challenge for the next month.

I chose a Target suitable for the Season. I hope it comes through on this post. If it does the scoring system is already on it.
Kill shot means any where on the body, no points for legs or wings.
Good Luck to all the participants.

Printed out some targets. Heading to RCGC in the morning.

Hit it with your Best shot. I believe you are the first to try it since I submitted it. You might be in the lead when you finish.
This is a good way to break in a new Lothar Walther barrel 🤗. I think I’ve got maybe 100 through it so far.

Good looking Club. I am new to NC, been here 1 1/2 years. Still learning my way around after moving from Clemson, SC.
I attended a Hunter Education Instructor Course in Ellsberg, NC. It was at the Millstone 4-H Camp. Real nice place.
Auto correct changed Ellerbe.

Question/clarification: Are ‘kill shots’ anywhere on each of the creatures on the target?

Hit on legs of the smaller spiders?
Only white center dot of larger spiders?
Hit spider web surrounding spider?
Hit on outer wing of the bat?

Thanks!

If your Wife was deathly afraid of Spiders and or Bats and one somehow got into your house and she saw it and was screaming at you to KILL IT! Would you tell her I jerked a Leg off the Spider and punched a hole in the Bats wing, they are going to Die-------Sometime.

Well I stunk it up again. Best 2 targets were 60’s. I think next time I’ll use a front rest instead of a bipod. These little targets need some more stability than the bipod is giving me. 😫🙄

I’ll post pics later.

How did the new Lothar Walther barrel do?
What is your opinion on this target? I haven't tried it yet. Going camping this weekend with my Daughter and my 3 year old Grandson. Maybe next week if I survive.

It was good, not great. I need to shoot some more without the bipod. Getting fliers even with Midas+. I should try a little harder too as I was crunched for time. I shot a box each of Center X, Midas+, and SK pistol match. I liked the SK, but I’m not sure it will hold up past 100 yds. This gun is definitely going to be a project!! I’m going to try some different ammo until I get the most consistent groups. Then I may play with different torques on the action screws.

Well your off to a good start. My rifle likes Lapua CenterX pretty good. I tried some SK Rifle Match and shot some really good groups. I haven't tried SK Pistol Match.
Don't know for sure but I believe you are the first person to try this target. I hope I didn't make it so hard that everyone is discouraged.

This does NOT count for score!! It does not meet the requirements for a “rimfire” challenge, so this is for fun only… Many of you know I have just been shooting with the group for several years now with my pellet rifles.

Been a while since I have been on here, because work has been brutal and have had no fun time. Also sold off my previous pellet rifle to focus on Field Target this summer. Decided to pick up another high power pellet rifle to mix it up. Only day 2 with it and still doing some tuning and haven’t tested any other pellets yet.

Score = 80 (thanks for the confirming the scoring). This target still ended up being the best.

Rifle is an FX Impact M3 in .25 shooting 34gr pellets. Same Accutac bipod I always use, and trying out a new Arken 5-25. Still learning how these pellets work in the wind. Missed some calls today, and not sure I have found it’s sweet spot in velocity yet, but it is close.

How far are you shooting that air rifle? I don't want to be to critical of your shooting as I am very impressed. I just want to add some clarification to the scoring. The only points available (10 pts.) are for kill shots. So projectile must hit the body or head. Legs, Wings or webs don't score any points.
I know you stated that your score doesn't count but I just wanted to clarify the scoring again before someone else adds their score up incorrectly.
Keep trying, it looks like you have the gun and ability to turn in a perfect score.

Ellerbe is my home town where I grew up.
I didn't get to see much of it, but the Millstone 4H Camp was really nice. They have an excellent Rifle Range, plus a Skeet and Trap Field and a 3-D Archery Course. Nothing like that close to me in Statesville.

50 yards. I try to adhere to everything except the rimfire portion.

Thanks for clarifying on the kill shots. Seemed like some else asked, and it wasn’t confirmed, so I just went with it, until we heard.

Not taking it as critical at all buddy. All is good.

I’m glad you confirmed that. I updated the scoring and ended up loading the same target. If I can get some more time behind it, and get used to the wind, I can improve.

This is the first time in several years I’ve dropped down from 40-50x. I miss my scope on my field target rifle after this.

I haven't even had the chance to shoot it yet. I was a little concerned that I might have made it too challenging. I added a couple of small targets as the original only had 11. I know that we have some serious shooters in this group and others who like to plunk so I thought this target would satisfy everyone. It certainly looks like you are enjoying it.
Do you save any money by shooting that rifle versus a rimfire?

I know what you mean about the size range of targets. I tried to also keep that in mind when I was choosing and making them a couple years ago. I think it is good to have a range of targets. Gives everyone something to aim for. In the end, there must be a winner, so those make it easier than tiebreakers. I always have fun with these. I started enjoying shooting on my own a lot more when I found this thread a few years ago.

“Do you save money?” That is a loaded question! I’ll start by saying yes, especially on ammo. We know there is a wide range of ammo prices so we’ll just think about popular ammo used for more than just plinking… good rimfire is about $8 for 50 (.16) and the competitive stuff (CenterX) starts as low as $13 (.26) and that is just 50 rounds! It is hard to find at good prices, so you have to ration. Pellets are much easier to find, and the most common JSB are competitive. Some of the most competitive ammo is .$065 and some pay up to $.13 for larger ammo, but that is preference for which size you like/prefer/think is better. The .22 sized 25gr have dominated most competition at $.065 or $13 for 200. It is actually more like $9.75 (.05) when you buy from the larger online places for a discount. I can shoot a whole can of 200 rounds for less than I can shoot CenterX. That means I get to shoot MUCH MUCH more and I have way more fun because of it.

I have found (in light wind) that my pellet rifles have outshot many of the base model 22s I have ever owned. None of them can touch the Vudoo shooting CenterX, but I can shoot a lot more than I can shoot that.

Then comes the rifle… the up front cost of shooting high power pellets is more. The rifle, maybe not so much. If you are super competitive in either, you pay up for it and you can pay as much for an FX or Daystate as you do for a Vudoo. The real extra cost is air. Hand pumping is not really an option. You need a real source, so living near a dove shop or paint ball shop and paying for refills, which would require the purchase of a tank as well. Or you buy a compressor and those have a wide/wide range of cost.

My savings on ammo has saved me more than I have paid for my air… for now… if I buy a new compressor, I’ll have some catching up to do.

Went to the Range this cool morning and shot "at" the Spooky Spider Takedown target. I shot 4 targets with SK Rifle Match. Target 1 - 60 points, Target 2 -60 points, with 2 shots really close, Target 3 in a light breeze 70 points with one shot really close. Then I shot target 4 in about 4-7 mph breeze and scored another 60 points with 2 shots extremely close. It amazed me how the wind effected my shots. At least I thought it was the wind.

Another good day at the FOP Range. Arrived early, it was foggy and I was the only one shooting for awhile. I tried out some new Ammo. Norma Match 22, 40 grain, mv 1083. Started off shooting at a sight in target at 50 yds. This ammo seemed to group a little better than Lapua Center X. I hung a Spooky Spider target and here are my results. I scored this Target a 100 at the range but after getting home realized I had made a mistake on the first spider on the left. The ACTUAL score is 110.

I have shot the Norma Match that was in the white box and it was always very good in my CZ's

I have a bunch of suggestions, some of them were given to me when I asked the same question. 1. Sounds simple; find the ammunition your gun loves, it might not be the one you can afford.
2. Sort this ammo out by weight. You will find a big difference in some. Keep them separate and use them to warm your rifle up. I don't know where the weight difference comes from. The primer charge is probably the least factor, then the powder, then case and bullet would be the highest.
3. Get a Rim Thickness gauge, about $50.00 and sort your weighed bullets out by RT.
This is a time consuming process but it does eliminate some of those fliers and it makes some of the "cheaper" ammo shoot like some of the higher dollar stuff.

The rules stated for this target said the shots had to be a "Kill" shot to get 10 points. Wings and legs don't count. Has to touch body or head.
That is a nice looking setup and a great looking Range. What's it's Name?

Crap, I thought it was just the legs. Forget my target scores. If I knew that I wouldn’t have wasted my ammo.
thanks for the advice and correction.

Deleted the wrong scores So I don’t get piled on. Range is at Uwarrie.
