Ok, what's the deal with gun cleaners?

Lube is whatever on hand. CLP, Hoppes, Syn 2-cycle oil. etc. I did recently score one of these pen oilers:

Beware. The plastic cylinder on those will crack and split open like an egg. I 'sploded one in my hands at the range.

The only cleaning equipment I take to the range is a small rag sprayed with RemOil or an equivalent. After shooting, particularly my carry gun, I do a field strip and wipe down the barrel and the feed ramp. Takes 5 minutes and gives me the assurance that the next time it will do what is expected.

Not to mention, I hate the way Hoppe's smells

Even though the aroma of Hoppe's No. 9 isn't the same as it once was...it was called "Nitro Solvent" then...to this day a whiff of it takes me back to a simpler place and time.

Anybody old enough to remember the smell of fired paper shotshells?

It just doesn't get any better than those two.

Ballistol smells fantastic!

I know a lot of people pour their new cleaners into another container. Hoppes jars are garbage no matter which size you buy.

That bottle of Hoppes I posted on up the thread reads Nitro Solvent on the label. I've had that bottle for decades. o_O

Paper shells...but of course. I like Estate shot shells. They have paper base wads and emit a little bit of that old time aroma when fired.

G96 is another gun cleaning CLP product I like. Smells good.

Who the heck brings gun cleaning supplies to the range with them ? The only ones I know of are bench rest rifle shooters ( Im waving my hand) for a 100 plus round match. For a pistol ? Guess Millie does.

I keep a can of CLP in the bottle holder on the range bag. My Midway bag has compartment underneath that has my cleaning supplies in a Plano case.

I didn't go back and read it all, but I think I was just fussing about oil all over the baggie I put the container in, or something, which was in a pocket of the range bag. I'm not sure I took a whole gun cleaning kit to the range.....maybe I made it sound like I did, though.

Didn't read to me like you took a "whole gun cleaning kit to the range". Most people have a tendency to interpret things they want to. Let me read it again...I might change my mind. :D

Usually have a cleaning kit with me on the range. Can't count the times I needed a cleaning rod or CLP.

CD
I can certainly see why you might need to be fully stocked! You have a lot of cool stuff to shoot, and you shoot a lot, it looks like. LoL. I see your posts and pics and I wonder what interesting things you'll show us next.
Take care of yourself over there.
