I have an old kerosene heater that I am considering restoring. It looks kinda like this

Does anyone know about high temperature paint?

Rustoleum has a paint rated for 1200 degrees that I was planning to use. I don’t want it flaking off or stinking when it run the heater. I was planning on using the heater mainly as an outdoor heater for camping or my deck.

Plenty of high temp options out there. Quite a few labeled grill paint that are rated to 1200°. Also some automotive (header/exhaust) options in different colors.

Another product to consider is Cerakote. Some of the high temp options are air-cured, and good to 2000°. Tons of colors available. It’s what a lot of silencer companies use.

I painted smoker with 1500°F XTC header paint … but only the outside just in case it flaked it wouldn’t contaminate the meal. The only problem I had was where penetrations from inside to outside allowed rust to form and wick under the edge. Preparation and complete coverage is a big deal … cure the rust cancer and make sure areas are seal to inhibit future growth as best as possible.

And in case you’re like me and don’t have a compressor set up for spraying, this is all I’ve ever used for Cerakote:

Very inexpensive and works just fine. They sell additional packs of the top half. You can find 4-packs at other places, but this gives you an idea:

I may do some electrolysis means to de-rust it.
