Picked up my baby today from the gunsmith, Henry H006. While they did phenomenal work on what I requested, they accidentally dinged my wood furniture. Nice beautiful eye sore towards the butt of the stock. They offered to take a look at it which is nice.

Yeah I know guns are supposed to be used and blah blah but that doesn’t change the fact I was pissed when I noticed the blemish. Can they fix it? Is it worth my time and gas?
Thoughts, comments?

A damp rag applied to the ding, and a hot iron (like you iron clothes with) applied to the rag gently and briefly will expand the wood fibers enough to pull most or all of the ding out, but won't fix the finish.

They “offered to take a look at it”?
How generous!

If someone put a small dent in something I frequently dent myself as a matter of course, that’s fine. Old dirt bike or something. My framing hammer.
Go ahead and smash that shovel around.

Take it easy on the walnut stock though homie!

Did you point it out when you picked it up or is this after the fact?

Just saying right or wrong hard to prove anything after the fact.

What were they fixing on it?

It was after the fact. I didn’t notice it until I got home some 10 mins later, I was too busy eyeing the great work they done on my hand guard. I called him immediately The Gunsmith seems like a stand up guy.

So they dinged it, and didn’t tell you???
I’d give them the chance to make it right, but never do business with them

I’m not too worried about it, I don’t think he’ll go there. We will definitely see come Monday when I take it back to him.
Would be hard to justify me making that nasty dent ten mins after pickup, considering that’s the only blemish on the rifle. If it were dropped, there’d be other marks too. It legit looks like someone dinged it with a tool or something.

If it were a rounded dent as if hit with a ball peen hammer , the wet rag/ hot iron method works pretty well. That gouge looks like the wood grain is broken. Maybe from hitting the corner of a bench vise or dropped a wood chisel on it. That's usually a bit harder to repair. Hope they do the right thing.
