Looking for a dot for my AR. I don’t have a lot of experience with dots, especially on rifles. Looking to spend no more than $350. I’ve seen some spotty reviews on the MRO. Any long term users here?

My opinion is a solid "meh".
I'd rather have a Aimpoint Pro/ACO, various Sig dots, maybe even a Holosun.
Eotech is getting ready to release new models too, you can get a 512 for less than $350 if you look around.

I’ve had them. I think they get by on the Trijicon name recognition. Fine sight and nothing wrong with it at all.

That said, I have a Holosun AEMS now that I’m really liking.

Reviews are mixed, at best.

For a primary rifle (absolutely needs to work, no matter what) I’d encourage you to look for a used Aimpoint T1/H1 if you desire the small/micro package or an Aimpoint PRO/Duty RDS if a little larger optic would work. If money isn’t an issue = Aimpoint T2.

Rugged, reliable, battery life, form factor, etc. - I don’t think you’ll find negative reviews of Aimpoint products.

I couldn't stand it. The base models do not magnify well at all. The slight magnification they had also seemed created huge parallax issues for me personally. I never did quite understand it.

It's a solid OK. The < 89K (I think) SN models had some issues. I agree, people glom on the Trijicon name.

Aimpoint (any) or EOTech are 'the' standard. You can get a used Aimpoint CompM2/M68 CCO or PRO/ACO for that price, as well as EOTech 512.

I must have dreamed it, but I thought someone tagged me in this thread somewhere. Now I can't find it. Strange. Maybe I dreamed it.

Anyway, it gets a solid "meh" from me simply because of the parallax.

I’ve had one for about 6yrs and as far as performance goes, I don’t have any complaints about it. I will say that you’re going to be SOL if you ever have any issues with it past the 5yr mark, well at least without jumping through a bunch of hoops to try and get Trijicon to warranty it. I have a lot of Trijicon products, but after the nonsense I had to go through for them to fix my broken MRO, I will never buy another Trijicon product again.

I have an AEMS as well and I really like that optic. Just saw that ADM is now making mounts for them, so I may upgrade mine in the near future.

Even though they have tons of parallax, I was informed by a member here that it is scientifically impossible for them to have parallax, and that I was a "science denier" for believing they did because: "Physics" and dude "has an engineering degree".

So, quit believing your own eyes!

Is his wife a Dr?

I have one. Feature wise its not better than my Holosun, other than having a wider field of view.

I like the holosun's shake awake and push button brightness controls. I don't like turn dail brightness controls. Holosun gives the option for multiple reticles -- which I don't use, just the dot -- but the option is there at least.

The dot on the trijicon gets pretty gnarly at high brightness. It's not quite round. More peanut shaped.

It does not come with a mount by default unlike holosuns which typically come with 2 or 3. That was a real bummer for me.

It's quite solidly constructed. Seems like it could take a beating.

I'm hoping that despite its flaws its tougher and more reliable than the Holosun. I do have it on my main AR for that reason.

Honestly though it was a bit of a disappointment considering its price tag.

I have 5 of them. Never found any problems even with my slight astigmatism. For their price point, there's not a lot of competition that isn't Chinese made or has a decent bit of compromise. I bought my first one (a pre-89K serial number that wasn't true 1x) for under $280 shipped brand new. Now they can easily be had for $350 with a decent mount (used like new). I have an AEMS on the way from @amnesia and based off the ones I've held, they could be very promising. If the Aimpoint RDS ever drops to under $400 new, even without a mount, I think that will give the MRO a real challenge.

Having said that, any of the rifles I'd bet my life on have a T2 or Eotech on them. Keep your eyes peeled on Tacswap, ARFCOM, or a few other sights, and you can get brand new/like new T2s for $500 shipped without a mount, or $600 shipped with a nice mount. I've gotten 3 at that price point in the last year, including a brand new one with Unity mount for $600.

When I bought a BCM rifle last year, I decided I wanted to put something other than one of the myriad of ~$130 red dots, but not an Aimpoint micro, and the MRO looked very attractive. Unfortunately, I found more “meh” reviews than anything. Frankly, I was pretty surprised considering Trijicon stuff is usually solid.

I ended up getting both a Vortex Sparc Solar and Holosun AEMS. I’m a big fan of micro style (20mm) red dots so the Sparc solar is a hit, no surprise. I wouldn’t pay $280 for it and am glad I got mine for under $200. At that price, I think it’s a solid deal for the quality and features.
The Holosun AEMS is really nice. The rectangular window offers much more FOV. I really feel like this is an underrated optic. Integrated flip covers, protective lens covers (both removable and replaceable btw!), selectable reticle, solar, and shake awake. That said, I don’t think the Core model is the value they intended it to be, I bought both, sold the Core.

The core seems expensive for what you get. I remember thinking the price diff for the standard was well worth it.

I picked up the AEMS Core model a couple weeks ago. I think it's good value. I don't want or need solar, the flip down caps, and can live without the circle/dot reticle. $300 vs $400 made the core a lot more appealing to me.

The integrated flip caps were a definite selling point for me.

I just purchased one of the 3x Microprism scopes.
It is great. I have astigmatism and it really helps. Also the price is great and the ACSS Raptor reticle is one that keeps on given great shots.
