it's an action smashtacular with giant robots fighting kaiju

how can anybody not like that?
so formulaic, so many kaijo robot battles. mako breaking down her stern emotional wall with her outburst "sensei aishitamsu!"

What kind of monsters are you that you didn't like it?

I saw the movies in the theater. They're OK for what they are...monster/giant robot fight scenes.

I don't generally expect them to be award winning movies, I just expect them to appeal to the kid in me that grew up watching Godzilla, as well as old Japanese TV shows like The Space Giants and Ultraman.
 
Lt me be clear, I never expect Oscar winning (or even nominated) performances with action movies.
But, dang, this is just bad.
 
I'm going to take a contrary position to the OP. I really enjoyed the first one, it's a first rate mech vs monster movie with a decent storyline and good CGI. It's certainly not going to win any acting awards, but it's better than most you'll see in this genre.

I'm not going to stick up for the second one, but the first I'll watch over and over.
 
If you think Pacific Rim was bad, compared to Robot Jox it is a master piece.
 
Lol, I actually really enjoy this movie. Wouldn't pay for it. Yet I've watched it several times. Simple premise, good actors, good story, good production. Mech vs monster! Good enough.

I am even ok with the second one... Pure. Mindless entertainment.

I was a little bit older and was expecting more robot and less jox when I saw it. It was a big disappointment for me.
 
There is a far better version called Atlantic Rim. - Please, PLEASE watch it via MST3K. It's terrible. And amazing.
