I figured I’d take a chance on the new Palmetto AK since they have forged parts now.

Well it broke before I got it to the range.

Rear sight leaf had very little tension so I bent the spring to try to add a little tension...

...and the added tension broke the rear sight block and now it has ZERO tension.

Not a good first impression. Y’all gotta do better than this!

Yowza. Can you post a pic? Where exactly did the RSB break?

This, along with the AK-V troubles ... not what I was expecting to see with these latest PSA offerings.

Keep us posted on the return/repair process.

The part that holds the leaf spring down is bending up. Now the spring falls out. Maybe I added too much curve. Maybe it was already a little bent and I helped it along. Either way it’s no good now. I hit it with a punch to bend it back down and it came right back up under tension. So this is fun.

Other wise the rifle seems to be pretty good fit and finish lol

But if I can break it that easy something is wrong. I’ve got other AKs, so I know the rear sight was loose before I messed with it. It came off really easily too. They usually take a little persuasion. This one came off with just a slight push.

I just grabbed one of my Romy G kits to compare and yeah, something ain't stirring the Kool-Aid on yours lol. Sorry to hear about your troubles! PSA will hopefully make things right.

Actually, re-watching Rob Ski's sneak peak at the GF3, the slo-mo clip that begins at 3:25 in the video appears to show the leaf hopping around a bit more than normal. Compared with something like a Vickers slo-mo AK video, the PSAK does look a bit looser, so I wonder if this is a larger design flaw. I've not seen anyone else complain yet over on the AK Files.

Actually, scratch what I just said.

Just re-read Rob's thread over on the Files a bit closer and found this:

A few other guys chimed in about their leaves as well. I must have completely skipped page three of that thread.

I was gonna say I definitely saw a few complaints on Akfiles about the sight, and rob said it was an easy fix. So I tried to fix, and but my fix was a break

Ok they won’t refund me but they are gonna open a repair ticket for me. It will probably get sold when I get it back.

If you have a PSA don’t try to improve your rear sight tension to feel like a real AK!

Yeah, I am trying to figure out what the deal with the shortage of cleaning rods is...

Still not convinced PSA knows what they're doing. Between this and the
PSA SUCKS!

I GOT AN AR 15 FROM THEM, BEAT IT WITH 3LB HAMMER, NOW ITS BROKE!

POS!
To be fair, most thing on a good AK can be fixed with a 3lb hammer.

If PSA can't even get a flat spring right, I don't have much hope for the rest of the rifle.
Between the bad reports on these rifles and the complete train wreck that's been the AK-V, it's going to be a long time before I will trust any of their AK's.

At their $599 usual price point I can find WASRs with straight sight posts all day long. And they come with a cleaning rod.

Where? I'm not disagreeing about you the obvious WASR > PSA, but I'd like to know where these dimple-free Romies are hanging out for under $600.

Just saw a couple mak90s sell for around same price here also. Or Buds auctions

Okay, so used guns of questionable provenance on the secondhand market. The one you linked to looks rough as hell and doesn't even have a stock! Not trying to split hairs, and I realize you never said "new" WASRs for $599.

I'd still spend $650-$700 for a new WASR over a new $599 GF3 all day long, but for $599 shipped with a lifetime warranty, I can definitely understand the allure of a forged PSAK, even if it's just to experiment with (as @JGrigg probably bought his to do). Even the Files guys largely praised the price point on this thing.

Price is about all they have going for them.
Personally, I'd pay more for one that didn't have a myriad of problems.

I got the rear sight spring to stay in place and @Matthew douglass and I put some rounds through the PSA today. Hits point of aim even with the sight issues and had no malfunctions.

Seems like a decent budget option if you don’t dick with your guns like I do, and don’t expect it to be an Arsenal.

I did not feel like sending the rifle back to PSA. So I bent the spring back to its original tension and used a punch to hammer the RSB back into shape so it would hold spring. I fired 100 rounds and it didn’t fall out and shoots accurately. But the rear sight is still floppy. I would never be happy with this. If I send it back, my luck they will send a new rifle with a canted front sight and an equally loose rear.

I sold it to a friend with a scratch a dent discount. He’s fully aware of the issue I had. Their website says the warranty is transferable if he wants to send it in.

He liked the Ak74 wood more than me so I let him keep it. I even threw in a sling and cleaning rod. It’s his first AK, so I don’t mind taking a little hit if I get someone addicted.
