I have a question I've had for a month. I want to try a social experiment that requires panhandling. But Wake county requires you to have a "Panhandler permit". As ridiculous as that is. My question is would applying for the permit label me as "disabled" or affect me from owning or purchasing a firearm at an FFL? Because I haven't found any evidence it would.

FBI does the NICS check. How would they know? Mebbe they would, mebbe not. If they know it's because they collect and share everythang.

FFL is legally allowed to refuse to do business with you for any reason at all.

I doubt it does anything more (officially) than avoid a charge if you are involved with LE while panhandling, and being used in some social services metrics to report on how many food insecure people there are. This probably exists more to help Wake get some kind of aid hand-out.

Durham used to have it, but did away with it when the vests that they were giving away with the permits got too expensive.

Edit: Whether there is an unofficial "beggars guild" that determines who gets which corners is going to have to be discovered the hard way.

I want to hold a sign saying "Need money for Guns" and see what I can make. Because guns are not cheap and I have a list of 20+ things I want to get.
I envision several roll-bys of people saying "Don't we all?"

Doesn’t sound like a social experiment to me. Sounds like you want free money for guns. Do you have a job?

You're not entirely wrong. I do have a job working as a forklift mechanic.
From one industrial equipment tech to another, this is an idea only a forklift mechanic could come up with.

Personally, I spend enough time baking in the sun as is - I'll save myself from adding to that time. I also recive enough stupid looks from Zombies and NPC's in the central NC region already, and I don't have a sign around my neck asking for it.

If you do take this on, atleast film it so we can see how you fare out.

Well I have watched some of the first amendment auditors. One in particular holds a sign saying " God bless the homeless vets".

People will sometimes offer money but he turns it down, telling them he is not homeless himself, he is just spreading the message. He is challenged sometimes by cops tell him he can't panhandle.

He insists that the Supreme court has ruled panhandling protected speech by the 1st Amendment, and regularly challenges ordinances against it saying they are unconstitutional.

I have not researched to see if he is right but most of the time the cops back down, although he has been arrested a few times. Most of the time charges are dropped. He has filed a couple of lawsuits and won. Your mileage may vary.
