Hey, I've grown up with guns when I was young but I'm just getting around to starting a collection in my old age and I'm wondering how hard its going to be for me to find a good example of Mosin-Nagant 91/30? I've shot one of these before and I really liked the heft and I love the history too. I'm looking for the type of gun that Lyudmila Pavlichenko would have used - I'm also a big folk music fan, Woody Guthrie's "Miss Pavlinchenko" is certainly an inspiration. 'Enemy at the Gates' style

What are the chances I'll find one of these? I know they were cheap and available years ago, and indeed the one I shot only costed $80 at the time, but since that time is passed do these turn up? I went to some local shops and the closest thing I could find was a Finnish example, but it just didn't have the right history, plus it was extremely expensive. I'd like to find just a rounded receiver 'ugly' Russian model. Do ya'll think I'll be able to find one out there?

I don't think that I can message sellers yet - too new of a forum member- but can you experts tell me what are good things to ask/look for?

I know that matched numbers are desirable, and I'd want the matching bayonet too- although it looks like you can buy those separately. Anything else to look for? I've seen some that look like they've been badly refinished and that's something I'm looking to avoid. As far as the ammo on this listing - this surplus ammo is the corrosive type, right? - realistically I'll only be shooting this a few times a year for fun, so if I clean the gun afterwards would it be suitable to use?

Thanks for the help, and sorry for the newbie questions

Surplus ammo is corrosive but just clean it right away.

Matching numbers are nice, but not a dealbreaker if the rifle is otherwise in good shape. Mainly, you want to look for good bore and muzzle condition. Counterbores are not necessarily a bad thing, contrary to popular belief. And also, have realistic expectations of accuracy. They were never intended to be sob-MOA precision rifles, and they generally are not. If it will hit a "man size" torso target at 300 yards, it is good to go. Anything else is just gravy.

To your original question, you won't have much trouble finding a Mosin 91/30 here or elsewhere -- they made millions of them, after all. You can always look on Gunbroker or GunsInternational, which typically have dozens of examples on offer at any one time. Sounds like you've read up on them a little. That's good. One thing I learned when I started collecting was to learn my way around the variants and features of these things before buying.

If you're wanting the type of rifle she carried you need to look for a 91/30 PU, it'll have the swept down bolt and scope, that's what most people associate her with. But she also used an SVT-40 semi-auto rifle with scope later on as well, there are pictures of her with one of those as well.

Thanks for all the advice ya'll! I actually went and looked at a 91/30 PU yesterday - super nice, but really spendy. Between studying here and that site, when I went into the shop to check out that one you could have mistaken me for someone that knew what they were talking about LOL

thanks again

I have three Mosins 91/30 Russian models. I would be willing to sell one or two of them if you are interested. Here's pics of one of them. I also have about 500rds of 7.62x54R. I live in the Apex/Holly Springs area. I would like to get $350 each but negotiable. [email protected] View attachment 584757View attachment 584758
Welcome. Browse the site, read the rules, and you’ll figure where to post things and where not to. This isn’t the place and leaving your email or phone in the open sets you up for homosexual porn pics. Congrats
