My Phillips CPAP is involved in a recall do to an issue with the insulation.
They dealt with people hat had immediate reactions to the insulation and now they are getting around to the rest of us after about three years.
I think that they hope some of us would die before they had to replace it.

I got mine a while ago...not sure whyi was first. I got a very nice new black streamline model...super fancy with a touch screen. My dad just got his...a reconditioned front part only...they sent a disinfecting pack with it....not too impressive. They wanted me to send my old one back. My guess is they waited for a bunch of them to come back and put new foam in them.

They have two models.. one has preset pressure etc and the other adjusts them automatically.
my current one is automatic with moisture so they are sending me the automatic e one with moisture.
We will see if it works OK..
BTW. The one I have is already a replacement because the first one died a few days before the warrantee ran out.

Mine was out of warranty, they offered me $50 if I boxed it up and sent it in. My current ones are full automatic, put on the mask and breath. They monitor my breathing and crank up to 14 when I fall asleep.

I get my replacement parts online from Direct Home Medical in Hudson NH.
It is easy to order, the prices are significantly less than the guys that supplied the CPAP, and they are quick.

This is not an advertisement! Just the experience of a cheep old guy that likes to save money.

While waiting on the replacement device, I replaced the air chamber with one of these from Amazon which comes without any foam. It doesn't seem to have any effect on the noise level, pressure, or the settings. It's not an official Philips part but fit perfectly in my Dreamstation 1.

Amazon product ASIN B09MFFMLVQ
I received my replacement device on Friday and got a reconditioned unit like your dad. Since I'm one of those people who don't like change, I think I'm going to replace the chamber as I did on the pre-recall unit, then stick in on a shelf just in case.

My CPAP doesn’t look like that…. Here it is.
The right side is the humidifier and the left is the actual, unit.
The left side has been all over the World with me, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea, Mexico, Spain, England, Canada, and a few other places..

Phillips Suspends Sales of CPAP, Ventilator Machines

Monday, 29 January 2024 02:58 PM EST

Following a recall of millions of its breathing machines that began in mid-2021, Phillips Respironics announced Monday that it would halt sales of all such machines within the United States.

The machines include continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices used by people with sleep apnea, as well as ventilators used by other patients.

The recall was first spurred in 2021 by reports of defective CPAP machines emitting bits of foam and potentially toxic gases back into users' airways.

At the time, Phillips initiated a recall of the devices in June 2021 and put a pause on sales of new sleep therapy machines to U.S. customers, Phillips spokesman Steve Klink told the New York Times.

After that, Phillips published data from follow-up testing that it said showed the devices were “not expected to result in appreciable harm to health in patients,” although further testing was ongoing.

However, the U.S.Food and Drug Administration questioned the validity of those claims, calling them "unpersuasive," the Times said.

Although the 2021 recall affected about 15 million devices manufactured since 2006, over 5 million more were thought to be still in use by 2021, the Times said.

Many thousands of U.S. patients and their families who used the breathing machines have sued Phillips, blaming the faulty devices for a wide range of ailments, including fatal lung cancers.

According to the Times, in September the company reached a $479 million settlement with patients meant only to cover the cost of repairing and replacing machines. Separate litigation over illnesses and related medical costs is still working its way through the courts.

Under the agreement reached Monday with the FDA, Phillips is obliged to meet a list of standards before it might resume sales in the United States. The company pledges to repair and services devices already in use, the Times added.

Phillips said sales of the devices in other countries would continue.

I got a replacement CPap about a year ago that is different than the first one which was replaced 1 month before the warrantee ran out because of a problem with the power supply.
So I got 3 for the price of one… the first one went almost 2 years and the second for maybe 5 before being replaced. .

now if I could get GM to do that for my tuck life would be great.. 😊
😊

this is my new improved will not kill me CPap…
