Pictures you took today

Came to Michigan to spend time with my sister before/after surgery.
I was not expecting this...
3rd week of March. WTF.

Ran through snow squalls all day yesterday.

Last night at the hotel, get a list of local restaurants from the desk. All "within walking distance". Well 4-6 blocks. 35° with a 20 - 25 mph wind. Yeah. Never mind.

One beautiful thing about retirement is that the campgrounds that are sold out on the weekends are a ghost town on the weeknights. I’m spending three nights at Hanging Rock State Park. Counting the camp host, there are three campers here right now. It was 39 degrees at sunrise but inside it’s warm and toasty. Beautiful weather all week but here comes two inches of rain in the forecast for the weekend.

If you are able to make a trek up to the lookout tower on Moore's Knob. On a clear day it is quite the impressive view and worth the arduous hike!! From my last trip 31Oct2021:

Did you see them land and catch them? I had a hive swarm Saturday in the yard.
No they kept going through the yard into the wood over on the next property. They flew a long ways. The guy across the road has hives

I took my wife to HRSP when we were dating. Our son has been hiking there since he could walk. It’s been the site of many picnics and fond memories for over 30 years.

But my son has adult obligations now, and my wife died in December. Through her long decline into dementia, I avoided going alone into places where I used to bring my family. But this week I sucked it up and confronted those emotions. I hiked to Wolf Rock and sat there a while. I found I can look back with fondness for the memories without being overwhelmed by the loss. I’m ready to look forward to whatever is next.

And yes, I hiked the Moore’s Knob trail yesterday, and this morning Advil is my best friend.

Ain't nothing wrong with good memories. They're what makes life fulfilling.

Glad you discovered this.

I fully get that, I lost my Dad 12 years ago. I try not to focus on the fact that he is no longer here, but instead am thankful for the time he was and all those memories. Sounds like you are on that path as well.

The Moore's wall trail is a very serious trail indeed, especially if you try and come up the Western side of the ridge! I usually take the short cut through the campground that cuts off some of the steepest section. There is a service road around campsites 12 &13 that goes up to a pond, then a trail continues past that and comes out 3/4 of the way up the ridge on the Western side of the loop. ;)

RCR?

I can’t remember his name but see him around Welcome all the time. My dad know him

If there’s a lake with a trail around it in Wake County, we have probably walked around it. I once had an old dog who got tired of that chit; whenever he saw water he would turn around coz he knew he was gonna have to walk around another dang lake

A good friend who I call brother came by this evening with his oldest boy who just turned 21 not long ago. They went to the winston-salem gunshow today and the boy wanted to show me his new shooters. He had a tisas gi 1911 in the proper caliber 45acp. A cz scorpion and a gforce 12gauge bullpup. After we shot a few rounds out of everything his boy told me the gforce bullpup was a gift for me. I was completely speechless. He bought himself one as well and made his dad by his own. Gave me a big hug and thanked me for allways being there and helping him as he has grown up. I'm his uncle even though not by blood. It really got me emotional that this 21 year old kid spent his hard earned money on me. And it gives me hope that not all of today's youth are to far gone.20240323_183604.jpghere's pic of my new greatfully gifted bullpup with my nephews scorpion 20240323_180818.jpg
