Pocket carry and pocket pistols

My edc is a Glock 43, but I also have the North American .22 Mag revolver with the folding grip and pocket clip. The grip folds to completely cover the trigger, and the clip secures it to the pocket, and to anyone else, it looks you're carrying a knife.

Unfolded and ready to shoot, it looks like this.

Folded for pocket carry, it looks like this.

This is typically called a "mouse" gun, and it most definitely has its drawbacks:

There are NO quick draws.

There are NO quick reloads.

It is Single Action only.

With only a 1.8" barrel, anything over 10 feet is quite "iffy" as to making an accurate shot. (at least in MY hands)

It IS very small, so it conceals very well

It IS very LOUD with .22 wmr loaded, so just the noise alone may scare off someone

It IS better than NO gun!

Being a direct hammer fired revolver, I never liked carrying with a live round under the hammer, in case it was ever dropped, and it hit or landed on the hammer, it could go off. NA Arms has a really neat solution to that. In the top picture, I point out the "Safety Notches" in the cylinder. You pull back on the hammer just far enough to disengage the cylinder so it spins freely. If you look down the slot where the hammer rests, you can see these "Safety Notches" pass under the slot. Rotate the cylinder until one of those "Safety Notches" falls directly under the slot, and with the trigger pulled, gently lower the hammer through the slot until it rests IN one of the "Safety Notches." Now, the cylinder is locked to the hammer, preventing it from turning, and there is NOT a live round under the hammer. It is impossible for the gun to fire in this configuration. Even if the folded hand grip were unfolded, and the trigger pulled, nothing would happen. The trigger cannot be pulled until you manually pull the hammer all the way back, because it is SA.

I don't carry it that much any more, since we first started carrying G26's, and later, we both got G43/s . For Christmas this year, we both got XDS .45 compact pistols. Don't know if we'll carry them every day, or only when we go hiking in the Pisgah...

But like I said, this is a little "mouse that roars." It is what it is, and God forbid you ever need a gun, this is infinitely better than not having any gun at all...

Great post with interesting information you're sharing about the NAA mini revolvers. As I posted earlier in this thread I carry one of these in 22 mag and it serves a purpose for me. Thanks also for posting the safety tips you provided in your details. Many owners are not aware of the safety notch feature you pointed out so well.

Glad to have you aboard CFF sir.

Another vote for a NAA mini revolver. Those things really just disappear. But definitely in .22 mag.

I really like my PM9.

My LCP works too.

I was carrying a LCP but wanted a bit more than .380. Now I carry a Glock 43 w/ +1 baseplate in a nice little pocket holster I found on ebay. Since it's just a trigger guard with a wing for removal (hooks on your pocket during draw), it's no thicker than the LCP was in the Desantis Nemesis holster.

If I'm wearing pants I have a p32 in my front right or back right pocket. While lacking big power and capacity it serves me well because it is very concealable. Most of the time it's a backup to the g19.

I've got a PM9 but find it too large for me to pocket carry (I'm not that big of a guy). The LCP is my choice when I have to drop back to pocket carry. It's one of the main reasons I'm so disappointed with the LCP2. My favorite pocket gun is now larger in every dimension and heavier? Sigh.

any ol' 32 H&R magnum I find in the cabinet...
...or 32 acp, or 32 S&W, or 32 S&W Long.

Good deal. I wouldn't complain if S&W made a new .327 mag.

When I pocket carry, I have an M&P Bodyguard 380 and use a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster. Nobody EVER knows I have it with me.

By the way, I installed the MagGuts extensions in both of the magazines that come with the pistol that add one round to each without adding to the length. Several hundred rounds through these magazines with nary a misfeed.

I carry my Glock43 everyday. Sticky Holster in slacks works great. Check out Savane brand dress slacks. Large pockets, comfortable stretching waistband (convenient when you are iwb carry) and I can easily reach in and pull out my43 with proper grip. Saw a stack of them at Sam's Club in WinstonSalem on Hanes Mall blvd for like $20/pair. Normally I can't find them local but Amazon keeps them in stock at $28/Pair. I wear dress slacks 5 days a week, and BLACKHAWK! "internet operator" pants on my days off, front pockets on the blackhawk are harder to draw from than the Savane, but I like the magazine straps in the cargo pockets, and they are as comfy as pajama pants.

NAA Pug fits perfectly in the watch pocket in Levi's. It's not a lot of gun, but it's enough for when it's all you have with you. I have never met anyone that volunteered to get shot with one "because it is a mouse gun".

This'n has a cylinder that's plenty long, and I have a reamer...
but I read somewheres that the alloy frame can't handle the big bang.
Oh, well!

And Savane dress slacks are my favorite style for pocket carry. It all boils down to finding a good combination of gun, holster, belt, and slacks to pull off a successful pocket carry style. You and I seem to have found that the same things work for both of us.

Forgot to reference the belt. It's a Fatboy from 2foolsleathergoods our sponsor. 😉

And mine is a Fatboy as well. Hard to make anything work well unless a good waist platform is in place to hold those pants where they belong.

Just want to mention a gun you rarely hear about but sits nicely in this category, the RM380.

I find this combo to feel accommodating
light, yet I don't feel outgunned

Here's the Cape Buffalo wallet holster I made that fits my AMT Backup 380, Colt Pony Pocketlite 380, Iver Johnson TP-22 and Kimber Solo 9mm.

If I pocket carry, it will be with my G42 or 642 in a jacket pocket. I also have a Shield but it's too heavy for pocket carry. I can't tolerate to have anything in my front pockets - not even loose change, cars keys, etc. IWB for me.

Usually my Kahr PM45, or my .38 LCR, or the Colt Agent which I just got it back from the gunsmith who corrected a timing issue and bobbed the hammer:)

I have been pocket carrying a G26 this week in preparation for an upcoming trip. I liked the extra capacity plus the ability to carry G17 or G19 mags...

At the moment of truth, I packed the CM9...The G26 was just too big for some of the deep concealment that I will need.

The G26 is doable in cargo shorts or baggy pants, but I need something for some slacks/tucked shirt etc..

Been pocketing this for almost 2 years. Got it in a belly band as we speak.

This pistol wouldn't work for me. Traded it in on a Ruger LCP, with a big loss.

I pocket carry 100%. At times, I may add a TriStar C 100, at 4 o'clock, under a shirt. I have pocket carried a Kel-Tec P32. I sold the Kel-Tec and the moved up to a Kahr CW380. The Kahr had some trouble feeding Fiocchi ammo. I then got a Glock 42 and still use it, occasionally. The 42 is just a tad too big for most of my pockets. It's a pleasure to shoot and I plan to keep it. The Taurus was never reliable. The LCP works and fits in my front pocket effortlessly. I don't feel under gunned with a .380 pistol. If it's ever used, it will be at close range.
