A prayer for your friend. Godspeed in the recovery.

Just got back from the hospital.
Right leg broken, bone through the skin. Left femur and pelvis broken. No other major injuries.

Apparently, for unknown reason, he hit a guardrail on the opposite side of the road and was catapulted down a steep embankment.
Nobody knows why, no other vehicles at the scene.
Somebody simply saw the bike against the guardrail and called the cops, cops investigated and found him off the embankment. Apparently he went airborne and landed on his feet.

He has a been riding most of his life, built an Ironhead from scratch, was riding a Road King.
He was also a member of my race team way back when. His son is in the ECTA 200mph club (on a bike).

One of the rare ones that I could call for help and he wouldn't ask why before he was on his way.
His mom "Ma" claims me as one of her own.

We're so close that he had me and another brother join him at the altar at his daughter's wedding last summer....to give her away.

He's tough old bird, and he'll recover, but it'll be a long road.

He's a recently retired EMT, so everybody at Spartanburg Regional knows him.

He's also a long time member of the Patriot Guard and has never missed an opportunity to serve when requested.

Strange....I was just about to call him to see if he wanted to meet somewhere and ride when I got news of the accident.

Thanks for the update; glad to hear they found him & that he'll - eventually - be ok.

He had a second surgery yesterday evening, for femur and pelvis repair.
Was awake this morning, can't talk but can nod his head. He remembers the accident, and was able indicate that no other vehicle was involved.
A friend of the family went to the accident sight and said there was a lot of gravel on the road in the curve where he wrecked.

Hoping for a quick and full recovery.

Only time I almost laid my bike down was when I was taking it to sell it in the bank parking lot and have them notarize the title. gravel was everywhere in the entrance where I turned in, and I couldn't see it until I was on top of it. leaned the bike and turned to the right, but the front wheel didn't have any traction at all for a second. Adrenaline rush for sure.

Just call a call from my brother from another mother.
He went to in house Physical Therapy 4 days ago and is now back in the hospital.
Apparently there's a drainage issue that may have caused an infection.
Possibly another surgery now.

Ugh, sorry to hear that. However; it seems pretty common. Our son spent a lot of time in the hospital last year from a secondary infection. Praying for a full recovery.
