Pretty sure this is a bear? Talk me out if it.

Yup....

Also, is where we're supposed to say something about crocs, crocs and socks, or crocs without socks? I can never remember....

Did you piss over HIS scrape spot?

You’re in trouble.
establish dominance right? No, it came from the overflowing water trough

I'd be taking measures.
That's the crazy part. All of my property is fenced in and hot wire on top and bottom. I don't see any signs of anything crawling over the fence.

You better hope that's a bear, because... what if it's not?
I'm not sure based on the size of the claws and that dirt is a hard pack that something pretty powerful would have to dig in it. Our dirt broke a skidsteer fence post auger when we were putting posts up

A bear can jump that fence easily. Or easily drop from a tree overhanging.

HB don't care.

Yup. We've had consistent, but infrequent, sightings around here for a pretty good while, say 15 yrs or more.

Several years ago a 500#+ female got run over on Hwy 74.

Which is not far from the @amnesia homestead.

You can borrow my 458 if you want.

I saw one in my backyard in Boiling Springs earlier this year. Thought for a minute we were going to lose the dog...blue heeler who definitely aint skeered of nuthin...but she managed to get it to amble off back to where it belongs.
Edit...our property butts up against a large tract of pasture land that was planted over in pines many moons ago. We see a variety of stuff along the back of the property.

We don’t have trees hanging over. About a 20 ft from the wood line. They would of had to jump it. I’m not showing any sign of it crawling over the fence.

Thanks! I may need it. Felt a little silly out there with a ar10 308 😂

I have a bear that came over my split rail fence and ripped the siding off the goat cabin…on two sides!

I repaired it and it hasn’t damaged anything again.

But it keeps taking monster dumps all over yard a couple times a week. Like large pizza sized pile of crap.

Seen it once. And it’s big 400 lbs easy.

That will do. They are thin skinned and not having the mass nor the temperament of their western or northern cousins.

That sounds kinky. What if the bear is not into that kind of thing?
Use alternative methods to attract them

That looks like a buck scrape to me. They scrape their antlers in the dirt and pee where they had scraped. There are lots of deer tracks in some of the pictures. It looks as if you have some nice bucks in the area.
I've never seen a buck with tines that perfectly spaced.

I concur.

If it were a bear lookin' fer grubs, it would be more of an X, one paw crossing over t'other, an' it would be into something rotting, sometimes only leaves. Kinda like the bare spot a turkey makes in the forest floor, only deeper claw marks.

+3
My bears never do anything like that. The only time they dig is for bugs. Had one dig up a yellowjacket nest and eat it. And they don't just scrape the top, they dig way down..open the whole ground up.
They claw the hell out of the trees and power poles though. Got one pine tree with a trench scraped into it 4" deep where they were going for bugs. That trench is 8' off the ground. The powerpole scraping is just marking their spot.

Hey @Gray ! Do you think it’s the same one from my post back in August?

Time to install a trail cam.

It's a Slewfoot. They can show up anywhere if folks ain't living right.

A bear was spotted in downtown Hickory just last week. They‘re everywhere!

You concur?

You do know that deer make scapes with their hooves and not their antlers right?
