Yes it can be turned off. And yes, a lot of people get it confused.

Can they just be made private? I mean, why call them PMs if they are not private?
 
Pms are private. Profile posts are not. It’s essentially like facebooks wall if that’s still a thing.

Okay, so if I "start a conversation" with another forum member, that is a private message. But if I post it directly on their profile, it is public. I think I understand it now.

I never paid any attention to the profiles. I just saw the "latest profile posts" box on the side of the main screen. And some of those look like they were intended to be PMs.

Yep…that’s the issue. A majority of them across the membership should’ve been PMs. And a lot of people mistakenly think that’s what they are, hence the whole reason for this thread.

This is the only forum I’m on that uses “conversation” instead of PM/IM, so some people don’t understand what is what.
 
Is there a good purpose to be served for Profile Posts? And why reserve a spot for them on the main home page? Other than for the entertainment value.

Like @frakncylons I chuckle when I see someone post "Hey can you meet me Friday?" or whatever on a profile post page. But as entertaining as that is, I'm in the "Turn it off" camp.

Don't sweat it if it's too tedious. Having it off the front page is enough for me. Just figured if it was easy to turn off it might eliminate some of the confusion that some have with thinking "profile posts" are the same as PM's. Get ready for "Hey what happened to profile posts? How do I send a PM now?"
