Was watching an episode of Longmire last night and happened to notice Deputy Ferg's holster and revolver. Is this a proper holster for what appears to be a S&W revolver leaving the trigger exposed? Looks like an accident waiting to happen to me.

The holster is clearly too small for the gun, as evidenced for one that the trigger loop is hitting the holster.
Secondly, look how high the grip rides. By the time that thing clears the holster you could use the hammer to scratch your armpit.

Hollywood. 🦄

Search eBay for vintage revolver holsters. There are plenty of examples of holsters that are designed around getting the trigger finger ON the trigger as part of the draw.

If the hammer is strapped down, the trigger cannot be pulled.

Check out this article on the SERPA’s grandad:

Clamshell Holsters

Covering a trigger is largely a result of people carrying semi autos. There are several ways to keep a revolver from firing. Cover the trigger, hold the hammer down, or keep the cylinder from rotating.

I'd have to see more of the holster to see if it's supposed to be like that or they just made it work.

Maybe some adaptation of this? 🤔

Nah, just friction in the holster keeping the cylinder from spinning and not letting the gun fire. Ever tried to pull the trigger on a revolver in a holster? Assuming it's got decent retention It's at a minimum going to be hard enough to do that it acts as a safety even if the trigger is exposed.

SO many problems with Longmire... starting with them wearing plate carriers... without any plates in them... not even cardboard.
