I have bought a 300 blackout pistol upper and am thinking about sbring it. I have not purchased a stripped lower yet. What are the next steps?. Buying a lower, cheap vs quality , paperwork for stamp etc. This is a fun build for a range toy over time. It is possible that I might leave it as a pistol and have fun with it as $$$$ is a factor also. This would be my first tax stamp if I go that route. The only things I know about stamps is it takes a long time and costs $200.00. Any help would be appreciated!

Makes more sense to leave it as a pistol and install an arm brace these days. Get a stripped lower, build it as a pistol and put on one of the multitude of not-stocks out there for every budget. Heck, my AR pistol not-stock was the rubber ferrule from a walking stick on an A2 tube and that worked fine.

For one thing you don't have to get a special boon from the King for that.

Agree with leaving it a pistol. I did all the research and was thinking of sbr but it makes way more sense to have it treated as a pistol esp if you have your chp. Now I can throw it in my truck, loaded or not, cross state lines etc. And my not-stock feels alot like a stock esp now that the ATF says it's ok if it hits your should when firing ;)

My only concern before buying another arm brace (I like the Shockwaves) is that I wonder if they’ll be legislated against along with bump stocks.

I'm anti-AR pistol. Buy the stripped lower. File the Form 1. Use it as a pistol while you wait. Convert it to an SBR once the Form 1 is approved and shoot it like it was designed.

If you travel out of state regularly, keep approved 5320.20 forms handy. I already have mine for 10 states for all of 2018. If you need/want to travel somewhere else, or want to have it concealed, configure it as a pistol.

The point above about them being outlawed at some point is very valid.

I am so glad I Sbr'd my pistol.
Now I can shoot it in matches (pistols not allowed) and use real stocks!

I think their is a niche for pistols but I prefer short rifles. I think it is worth 2 bills to put any upper I want on my rifle from 7-20".

A 10-14" AR is just so handy and capable you'll likely hardly use anything else.

I built a 300BLK 10" SBR (avatar), it's great for woods hunting & PHD. I'm smacking a 4" plate consistently at 175 yrds.
Yet I picked up a $30 Anderson lower, $15 Stag LPK and I'm lookin' to build a Shockwave & PSA 8.5" upper to carry as a concealed pistol (the laws are goofy) for a truck & Sunday-go-to-meetin' gun.

At this point anything and everything is possibly up on the chopping block. I know I'd rather lose a little on an arm brace and convert it back to a plain pistol than go through all the NFA crap only to find they move those goalposts.

Plus there's no register, no engraving, no Feds in your business with the arm brace. If they ban it you take it off and go the foam sleeve route like I did. Which actually works pretty well.

These days I like to interact with Fedgov as infrequently as possible. Especially since I always seem to have to get the cheque.

I agree....I was just pointing out a concern

Full disclosure: I have pistol braces and no SBRs but am thinking about pinning a spare direct thread 5.56 can to a 10.5” upper I have so I can avoid braces and F1 stamps. I know the pros and cons...this suppressor really is serving no purpose for me so I think it’s a win
