I cannot stress this enough!
I don't care if you're mowing grass, blowing leaves, listening to music, etc....protect your hearing!

My hearing is bad, supposed to wear hearing aids but haven't had any luck with them. Aggravating, and constantly
having failures, and very expensive.

Today, while messing around in the barn, I ran across a pair of my Howard Leight electronic shooting muffs that
have a volume control. Put them on thinking that the batteries are likely dead....they weren't.
I sat out in the woods next to the barn, almost in tears as I LISTENED to the birds, dogs barking afar, the roar
of a high altitude jet, leaves rustling.

Took them off and I couldn't hear any of that!

Partial hearing loss doesn't sound bad....but IT IS !!!!!!!!

Protect your hearing!

I'm always telling the wife to turn the sound on the TV up.
I'll ask how do you hear that, cause I hear fine but you don't she'll reply.
I run the ceiling fan year round to distract me from the ringing in my right ear

I'm in my late 40's and have bad tinnitus in my left ear and mild in my right. I'm always on my son about wearing hearing protection for anything he does.

This is a very good reminder for anyone of any age.

4 shooting buddies who did not wear hearing protection or enuff hearing protection back in the day are deaf as posts. 2 have hearing aides. Neither will usually wear them. Aggrevating as hell to try and have a conversation with them. I have tinnitus from going to Canes hockey games and not wearing hearing protection. Went to a lot of concerts in high school and college in the 70's. Ears would ring for a day or 2 . Now they ring most of the day, most days. 200+ OTC and prescription drugs aggrevate tinnitus.

This is one of the top posts ever on this site. Hands down.

I tell these kids all the time - dude, I can hear your music coming out of the earbuds that are plugged into your ears...that's not good.

Too many concerts and motorcycles and stuff, at 40 I have a bit of ringing all the time. At times it's hurt after an event.

What?

Tinnitus. I'm glad I can still hear but eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Every day all day.

Yep, me too.

My wife and I are opposite. I can hear the tv on 1 or 2 , she has it cranked to 30.
My autism doesn’t help being sensitive to noises sometimes either.. lol

I play a game of how low can I keep the volume on the TV and still understand it. Same with the radio.

My parents have the TV in their house on about 98 decibels. I don't even sit in the living room when they're watching Fox News.

Mine has been bad for years.
If it wasn’t for my eyesight I’d never kill a deer.
They sneak up from behind me all the time. I’m always like “where the crap did you come from” bang.

My wife and daughters are always asking me what that noise is ….. what noise?

And the ringing is loud and obnoxious.

Wonder if hearing aids work?

My wife asked a couple of weeks ago when did you start wearing your glasses to supper
When I stopped being able to see what I'm eating.
Old age sucks

I spend most of my time yelling at my son to stop talking so loud. And the rest being told to talk quieter by my wife.

I talk very loudly out of habit. Helps with @RetiredUSNChief and on the phone, hurts when we're alone in the car.

I started wearing glasses 30 years ago, now, I don't wear them. My eyesight has actually improved!

My Doctor tests my hearing every year. I'm in my late 40's, so far so good. I try to always wear hearing protection when mowing, blowing leaves, etc. My Mom's hearing is about gone and it's a pain in the butt trying to communicate with her.

My wife had cataract surgery about five years ago where they replaced the lens in her eyes.
She suggested it might be time to have the same surgery.
No friggin way

Between Loud music, working in a Print shop for a decade, and riding motorcycles without ear plugs over the years I am surprised mine isn't worse than it is. I have very mild tinnitus.

I've been wearing ear buds when mowing and running the weed wacker but it's music and probably louder than it should be.....

Worked on computers etc. Replaced all the hammers on a LARGE IBM line printer. Had to lay inside while it was printing to align all 132 hammers; 3 hours at 120+ decibels each time. Ear pro? What do you computer guys need that for?

÷eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee for sure.

Gunfire just the icing on the cake.

I hear the eeeeeeeeeee whenever it's quiet. Soo i usually have a tv on for background noise just to keep that down.
A lot of punk rock shows in my youth did th edamage. probably also didn't help being in the highschool band where it was considered a funny prank for somebody to sneak up behind you and blow a trumpet in your ear.
I used to wear earbuds to drown out the lawnmower, which was kind of dumb. These days I'll wear my bluetooth buds, but put some 32dB muffs on over those. I have to turn the buds up a little bit, but not much. I'm becoming quite the sissy about my hearing
I could probably get on just fine if i was more deafer, but my wife has a genetic hearing problem and wears 2 aids. So I'm hearing for 2 now. I spend a lot of time telling her when her cooking timers and stuff are ringing.

Would hear all the music from the young folks in the elevator when I worked in a high rise in NYC.
I wanted to partner with Sony for a line of hearing aids. I'd call it the "Say What Man".

three things:

"I started wearing glasses 30 years ago, now, I don't wear them. My eyesight has actually improved!"
my distance vision is now 25/20. used to be 40/20. old age atrophies/tightens the muscles to focus better.

"I hear the eeeeeeeeeee whenever it's quiet."
mine has 3 tones. high, mid, and low. sounds like a distant airplane.
it is similar to eyesight "floaters"....pay attention and they are there.

S4f: you are so right.
cataract surgery enabled
her to see every little thing.

My mind is always like “heck yeah, I can do this” and my body says “hold on a second, let’s discuss this thing a little further”.
The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.

I've just been recommended this. I didn't know they could modify the lens and correct vision at the same time. I've worn glasses most of my life. I'm about to get some test contacts to try mono-vision.

Hearing? My tester showed me the graph, which had a significant dip right in the female voice range. Wife didn't think it was funny. When I asked if the overall diminished function was due to normal aging, she said no. Loud noises had permanently damaged the ear.
I wear the aids sometimes, but was advised that the reduced ability to hear voices will start affecting my brains ability to interpret speech. Sometimes, with the aids, I can hear volume wise, but I still can't understand..

just been recommended this.
My wife wore glasses from the time she was six. First thing she did in the morning was put on her glasses.
When she was in her fifties between cataracts and bad eyesight her glasses were almost the proverbial coke bottles.
The cataract surgery cleared those up and after the lens replacement
she had 5 years where she didn't even need glasses
She now has a light prescription she wears but it's strange for me to see her without glasses around the house something she couldn't do before the surgery

Started wearing hearing aids about a month ago. I'm normal at the lower frequencies and almost completely gone at the higher. Wow! it sure is nice when I turn on the radio and can actually hear the snares on a snare drum and the high cymbals. I'm only 61 years of age but I think most of the damage comes in your younger years and shows up later in life. WEAR EAR PROTECTION!

I’ve had hearing aids for about 4 years now. Started off wearing them all the time. Now only every once in awhile. They reminded me how annoying people are 🤣. But I didn’t realize how much I relied on reading lips until Covid with people wearing those darn masks! I kept telling people, take off that mask so I can hear you 🤣

YEP!.......my fine hearing brother has gotten into the habit of taking any customer that comes through the door wearing a mask.
