Southern Pines, N.C. — Moore County deputies were involved in a shooting early Friday morning outside of Southern Pines.
Sheriff Ronnie Fields told WRAL News that deputies were responding to a noise complaint at 306 Fairview Court around 1:30 a.m. When they knocked on the door, a soldier with a weapon answered.
Fields said that one deputy fired his weapon and hit the man. That man was taken to First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst with an injury that is not believed to be life-threatening.
Because of the military connection, investigators from Fort Bragg will help with the follow-up. The State Bureau of Investigation will look into the shooting, which is protocol whenever a law enforcement officer fires a weapon.
When the shot was fired, Fields said, the other deputy took a few steps back and fell down the steps. He, too, was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
