Man I love my PTR. Ive shot countless m4/m16/AR15s and have 2 ARs in my safe built out how I want them.... There is something about slinging 308 out on the range through my g3 clone. Trying see if anyother members have any advice on quality of life improvements for it.0720221706.jpg
I just took off my Aimpoint and I'm installing a Primary Arms SLX 1-6x24. This might be my deer gun this year. The best modification I have installed so far was the enhanced buff tube. Its a shoulder saver for sure.0720221712.jpg
I had someone on here allready suggest a trigger job any other advice?

I do love FALs, the only ones I know on the market are DSA and the surplus for FALs have dried up years ago. Buddy has one with a 21" barrel.
I had a decent one for a while before I realized I didn't have any where to justify the expense of shooting it.

The cheek piece will help get your face where it needs to be when scoped:

I threw a different locking piece (#17 36degree) in to see if it would help lower or smooth out the recoil, but still undecided on it. Was going to get heavy buffer next but havent made it that far.if you swap locking piece double check your bolt gap after to make sure its in spec still.

Bill Springfield does trigger work that from what I've read is rated highly.

They're fun guns for sure!

ETA: grab a HK21 charging handle. Theyre bigger and easier to use. Wide handgaurd for the bad ass ood skool look.

FAL.. do it if you dont have one. I own 3, but only one ptr91 :)

Cheek riser 100% on my list I NEED it. Im trying to find the wide hand guards but the surplus has pretty much dried up. I have large hands and the wides would be a god send. The HK21 charging handle is a good one as well. Mine is a little hard to work.
I might pick up a FAL if I ever find a good deal on one.

I'll have to grab a pic if mine in its current setup. I also added the hk bipod and all told with my Sig 5x prism its heavy as hell, but fun as hell too.

Hk triggers do leave a lot to be desired though...

Ide love to see it. Hk bypods like the wide hand guards are scarce these days. You would think HK parts would start producing these since there is a demand for them.

I didn't lose money, but that was about it. It was way more rifle than my never able to practice self needed.

get a better buffer if you don't have the G3 one. And I like the green poly furniture
I have the extended buffer installed. The second picture is of the extended I have installed vs the stock buffer. The stock buffer is bad I encourage everyone to replace it. I think Bill can upgrade them as well. In sending my trigger into him Friday.

When I was shopping C308s the buffer was the #1 mod everyone recommended. I ended up with a .308 AR instead :D

But yeah the one's I have shot have beaten me like a mail order bride if they had the stock CETME buffer

I understand the call of the AR10, its probably the best 308 rifle available. You can set it up however you want and have TONs of aftermarket support. That way you dont have to be like me begging to find surplus wide handguards. 😂

Love my PTRs. Spuhr Stock is a great addition. Between the heavy buffer and a good muzzle brake it's an amazing shooter. Crazy reliable and more accurate then I am.

The spuhr stocks are really cool. I debated on getting an Magpul stock adapter but I can bring myself to get away from the classic look. I love that could war Bundeswehr look, I have a old surplus leather sling on it that I restored. This is also why In trying so hard to get wide handguards instead of just buying Mlok. What muzzle brake do you like? Im not a fan of the ones that spit gas in your face.
Great videos btw.

Very nice! I owned an HK91 many decades ago and actually took it to Germany when I was assigned there in the late 70s. It caused a major stir on the rod and gun range when I showed up with it. The German national who ran the range was convinced I had stolen it from the BW.

Haha wish I could get my hands on a HK91 but I cant justify the price of em these days.
Where were you in Germany? I was stationed in Vilseck for a while.

The Spuhr stocks are spendy and I don't know if they are actually worth the price but I like mine. Unless you are independently wealthy or hardcore about making a Swedish Home Guard clone there are other options though.
I think magnified optics are just extra weight on these unless you are really trying to stretch it ought past 200 yards. Within that, a red dot is fine and lighter.
I've got the parts for a Home Guard clone but for just practicality I have a Navy lower, Aimpoint, thin polymer handguard, the Spuhr, Springfield trigger, heavy buffer, extended charging handle, muzzle brake. It shoots softer than an AK.

I was using an aimpoint on mine but I'm trying to get out 500. In sending in my trigger to Bill tomorrow. So far on my shopping list: cheek riser, extended charging handle and muzzle brake. What muzzle brake do you like?

The Lantac Dragon and VG6 both work pretty well but if you're trying to save money, I've heard Strike Industries King and JCOMP are good too.

Here's a special news bulletin for you AR-10 fans.

Dragons outta stock, ill look into the vg6 gamma. I appreciate the meme and the help lol

I use the JComp and it works really well. Plus if you lookg at the TTAG Muzzle Devide Test it did a good job and eliminating flash and muzzle rise.

This relates but my mag pouch, I have a chest rig but this guy is so easy to throw in the car and go. It just attaches to your belt. Great little surplus items. I picked it up with 4 mags for $20.

The mags are still surprisingly cheap. I bought a pack a while ago from Midway and one was still in the wrapper, never even openend.

The A1 is the one with no stock right? I wish H&K would just stop being lame and make rifles like they did in the 90s. These civil variants that they make these days a awful and overpriced.

They are rising in price pretty fast. I think the surplus is starting to run low. I say in 10 years they will be FAL mag prices.
