I want a .308 AR
I should add Socom to the title as well. I want to keep it around the 1500 range less is better but usually don't exist in my world.

What would you choose and why?

Thanks

Just went thru this. Looked at everything from an M1A to the Century C308 to an Aynor-SC built PTR91.
Big factor is the HK-style fluted chamber ruining brass (I reload .308) and just the general manual of arms.

Decided on this, and won't regret it:

pics were on my phone so I had'nt edited it yet when you posted.

PSA PA-10
complete EPT MOE lower (sent it to Hunter) with the rubber grip from PSA. Was $199 xferred and shipped
complete MLOK stainless upper, nitride BCG was $399 shipped

gonna throw an ADI knockoff mount on there with a Leupold VX-1 2-7x33

No way in hell I'd spend $1500 on a heavy M1A with expensive mags.

No way I'd spend the same money on a Century C-308 as I did this thing.

Granted, these things probably need some TLC out of the box, there is a huge thread on Arfcom about fine-tuning a cheap AR10, mostly involving adjustable gas blocks since most are overgassed. But if you know your way around an AR, it's all the same.

Nice

I personally like the PTR's. They are heavy as hell but they are extremely reliable with crappy, dirty ammo.

I don't reload and shoot a lot of steel cased with mine. The flutes aren't what causes the most damage its the dent on extraction.

yeah that was just a sorry excuse. I'm looking at buying some of that Malaysian brass (berdan primed) ammo to burn thru with this thing anyhow ;)

I still want a PTR91 lol

I've got a ptr and imho you're not missing anything it's probably my least favorite of all my 308's go with a fal or stick with what you got.

I went through this last year. Couldn't decide between the FAL and PTR 91. So I bought both.

The FAL is more ergonomic but it was less reliable than the PTR and not much easier on brass. The mags on the PTR are $2 and the FAL mags cost me at least $20, and some didn't work. Both weighed about the same.

So I sold the FAL and kept the PTR. Plus you can't HK slap a FAL.
