Bought two sweet little .22s today, one pump and one lever which got me to thinking about a poll.........Pump or Lever?

One of my Top 10 Idiot Moments …

I walked by the used gun rack at a little LGS and saw a 90% Model 62. I picked it up and I thought the price was a little high BUT in was in truly great shape. I put it back down to continued looking. About 15 minutes later I went back for a 2nd look at of course it was gone … a guy was filling out the 4473 grinning from ear to ear. To this day I still am pissed I didn’t at least try a cash out the door deal …

I am a lever fan, but on a .22 I would rather have a pump given the 2 choices

only one you have, or only one you have had?
one means your vote is an educated one. the other ... well... the other means you should try a pump.
"Educated?" Way too much credit to the question ;) Honestly, I'm not exactly sure which is what prompted the question. I've been running through lots of .22 today, some through a pump and some through a lever. As I type, I'm still not sure. I think I know, but.........

a lever action is good for feeling like a movie cowboy
a pump action is good for shooting, like a refined cowboy. Also, i just learned henry makes one...

hah!
I just meant that i thought lever actions were great. I still do. But then i got my pump 22 fixed up and realized it's just easier to shoot fast.

I have a nice little Henry "Youth"..............when I was a kid we called it "Carbine"...........Happy to give it up. When I bought it I honestly told the clerk, "I'm honestly not sure how many of these I have....."

I'm a lever guy. Pumps are cool, but feel awkward to me & I'm much smoother & faster with a lever gun. I've turned in faster times in a rimfire steels match with my '59 Marlin 39A than a fair number of guys with semi autos 'n I am no where near some kinda hot shit shooter. You can run the wheels offa lever gun if you wanna & it's a more fluid motion for me to operate than a pump gun.

I disagree. 😉
Let's let the timer decide.

Have 2 pumps [a Remington Fieldmaster, a Rossi copy of a winchester] but one lever [a marlin 39 rebuilt into a 1897], but the op left out bolts, have 3 of those [a Model 52, a 1922M2 Springfield and a TBolt].

I like a pump but do not have one at the moment. I grew up shooting my father's Winchester pump. My brother has it now.

I don’t have a ton of experience with pump or lever .22’s. Ashamed to say that because I have my grandpas Remington fieldmaster pump and my brother has a Sears lever .22 of his. I need to remedy this lack of experience.

I’ve got several lever Henry’s. I need a Henry pump next.

I have had a Henry pump. Unnecessarily large and bulky. To me, a pump should be elegant and svelte, I quickly turned it lose as the Henry was neither.

Pump action center-fire rifles are near the top of my favorite-est long guns ever. Like Billy says you don't disturb the sight picture and the cool factor is off the charts.
I like them too but while that would seem the case it’s not true on centerfire pistol caliber guns used for cas [don't know about rifle caliber]. I had a repro Colt Lightning .45colt pump and found that the pumping of the handle moved the bbl and sights all over the place and it was necessary to reaquire the target for each shot. However I can plant my Marlin 1894 or ‘73 tight into my shoulder, keep the rifle on target with my left hand and cycle the lever all day long never losing a decent sight picture. My shoulder supports the rear of the rifle while the left arm holds the front, I use a very light lever cycle keeping my thumb straight never grabbing the wrist of the rifle.

When I was a kid the local amusement park had a shooting gallery with Winchester 62s and Marlin 39 carbines shooting shorts. I put a lot of rounds through both types over a couple summers. Being left handed either worked for me but the pump was the faster and more accurate for me. I've owned several Rossi 62s over the years and found them to be just as fun as that Winchester 62 many years ago.

My buddies and I would collect up the fired cases and pelt patrons on the ground and the swains and their girls in the rowboats on the lagoon from airial rides. That may have contributed to the shooting gallery being converted to air powered guns shooting frangible balls.

Mine will go to my grandson. He has become quite the outdoorsman. He traps, hunts and fishes.

My buddy is in his 50’s with no wife or kids. He’s got a brother in OH, but he’s not much of a gun guy so I figured I’d let him know I’d buy it If he ever ket it go.
