Pump action center-fire rifles are near the top of my favorite-est long guns ever. Like Billy says you don't disturb the sight picture and the cool factor is off the charts.
Actually he said they don't disturb the grip. I was going to ask which disturbed the sight picture more but maybe now I don't have to. :)

Still shooting my Dadā€™s old Remington Fieldmaster he got in the 60s. Remington had their mess together back then. Beautiful craftsmanship, both mechanically and aesthetically.

I disagree. šŸ˜‰
Let's let the timer decide.
(Pump chooter')

I knew you were going to chime in when I read the thread title. And rightly so. You should expound more on your pump and lever guns.

@Crazy Carl this @Slacker dude knows what he's talking about when it comes to rimfire racing with mechanical stuff. And weirdly enough, I was certain that a BL22 slicked up with the right sights would be the king, just due to the short throw of the lever.

But my Winchester 61A is faster. So sayeth the timer, and the timer don't lie. Sample size of two shooters (me and Slacker) at the time. Might be a hot stuff cowboy competitor that can do better with a lever, so I'll entertain the possibility that with practice and a better shooter the lever could be better. I mean, we ain't pros or nothing but we're pretty respectable rimfire mechanical nerds. Eh, maybe I should just speak for myself on that one. My credentials include spending a crap load of money on a custom 617 among other things lol.

For me though, the pump wins. My 61A is from 1951 and is in pretty much perfect condition. I love it dearly.

Oh I know. I shot several matches with Ryan many moons ago & would postulate that the differences in our stage times had less to do with the arrow than with the Indian.

I've never been a pump fan per se, so I've never put a lot of time into 'em, unlike lever guns. I've said it before, I ain't no kinda high speed, low drag shooter, but a lever can be run much faster than most would think. For a schlub like me, a lever gun gets 'er done & you & Ryan would likely shoot rings around me, regardless of our choices of weapon.

Ohh I'm high drag low speed for sure. Yesterday I hammered a no-shoot twice, had two double feeds (and one that looked like a triple feed but might not have been...mag issues) and had a very poor showing at the match yesterday. Some days I got it and some days I REALLY don't. Today entails a lot of head scratching to figure out what the heck went wrong.

Lever guns are awesome, and I need to own a few. I've sold what I had and growing up there were always bunches of them around. A Marlin 39A is definitely on the list.
