Pure Hockey!

That’s just....just....damn.

I grew up in Michigan. I was a hockey player into my 30s. I’ve been hit in every part of my body with a puck fired off a big freaking stick going much much faster than anyone could fling by hand....all it ever did was piss me off.

Unless you’ve got Gordie Howe slapsooting a guy in the chicklets, this is the stupidest idea I’ve ever heard.

THIS is typical leftist logic:

“The black discs were distributed earlier this month, and are part of a campaign to raise money for interior locks on classroom doors, the report said.”

They bought and passed out 7,500 pucks. At $1.50 each +\-, they spent north of $10,000 on PUCKS. How many LOCKS could they have bought? But, NOOOOOOO.....raising “awareness” was the goal.

So, his basis for the effectiveness of this idea was...

I was a hockey coach for my kids growing up. I remember getting hit in the head with a hockey puck once and it hurt,"

Wow.

But, what I thought was telling, was this unintentional concession at the beginning of the article...

How do you stop a bad guy with a gun when there's no good guy with a gun around?

A good guy with a gun. ;)

I used to have a guy that was on my payroll on a condo conversion in FL once. He was the developers BIL so I was basically stuck with this worthless person. I assigned him a meaningless position and gave him an office that you needed a map to find.
Anytime I looked for Frank and couldn't find him I would ask someone and the answer was always the same, "he's walking around dreaming up more s*it".... I see he's now working at Michigan University....

pucks can hurt, no doubt. But this was dumb as heck.
And to say how much they can hurt - one person I play with lost part of her ear because a puck hit her. Another almost lost his pinky finger - split it open almost halfway down. It, basically, smashed his finger between the puck and stick and it split open.

But, again, DUMB

- slapshot 80 to 100 mph, how fast can a teacher or a kid throw a hockey puck. Another leftist dumb plan.

I don’t know much about hockey pucks. Will they hold together if you drive a bunch of nails through them?

So, should they be issuing stick to go with them? Now, the sticks could do some damage. :D

I've mulled this over and decided I don't hate the idea. Not because it might be effective - clearly it will not. But because it's directionally correct. Handing a student a hockey puck as a defense weapon signals that fighting is an option that remains on the table. Plus, it's ridiculous enough to get attention and get people talking about self defense... exactly where we want them. Let this stew for a bit and then take it to the next logical step: effective weapons, training, etc.

Wtf...
My brother threw a marble at me once when we were kids, it hit my head and hurt like a mofo.... Would I throw a marble at a guy with a gun, so he can shoot me first once I (most likely) miss.

Those who cast the first puck, shall be shot in order. Lol

My daughter (in 7th grade) told me, after reading the article, that when the teacher handed it to her and told her what it was for, would simple ask her "how do I load it?"

I fundamentally agree. They're teaching to take defense in their own hands rather than rely on others. But, I think they are missing an opportunity. As previously mentioned, a can of beans would be more effective. (Can you imagine getting pelted with cans of beans?) So, everyone brings a can of beans and at the end of the year they donate the beans to a food charity. Then everyone brings more beans! They might even be able to get donations from a bean company.:D

The people who supplied the pucks to the students evidently agree that some weapon of defense is a good thing in the classroom but fail miserably to give them a suitable weapon to defend themselves effectively. Having been around school administrators all my life, that does not surprise me one bit. They want a job to be done but do not allow the proper tools for that job. So, having weapons in the classroom is good, but having effective weapons in the classroom is bad.

This was mentioned on the radio yesterday. You know how you think about stuff while riding down the highway? Well, I got to thinking.

How effective are the pucks going to be? How much training and practice with the pucks will the students & teachers receive? If everyone throws at once they're going to be out of ammo pretty quick. How many will actually hit the target? Probably just the ones thrown that are the closest to the threat which is exactly who the shooter may return fire to first.

To me this is no different than thinking that everyone with a carry permit and a pistol would react the same way if confronted by a bad guy with a gun. I don't think every single gun toting guy out there would remain calm enough to draw, aim and fire with some measure of accuracy. Yes, maybe a small percentage would but most would probably spray and pray, run or just piss in their pants. Same thing with hockey pucks.

In the movie "The Shootist" John Wayne is asked by Ronnie Howard how he won so many guns fights, was it speed, accuracy or something else. The Duke replies that he was willing where in most instances his opponent was not. Guns or pucks, there's more to it than just having one in your hand.
