Been away this week to the Texas Hill Country and purposely didn't take my laptop or tablet and I don't do much forum stuff on my phone. It was so nice to escape from everything for a few days. I hardly took any pictures.

Joanne and I left here Tuesday morning and went to San Antonio. I had been to The Alamo before but, Joanne had not been. She really loved seeing The Alamo and reading about the battle. From there we went north to Canyon Lake where we had a rental cabin. Canyon Lake is about 15 miles from New Braunfels and Gruene. We went to some wineries and I stopped in to see Gruene Hall while I was there.

The next day, we rode over to Fredericksburg, TX. Fredericksburg is a tourist town with specialty shops and wineries galore. We looked around and had a great lunch. On the way back to the cabin we stopped at Luckenbach. It's in the middle of nowhere and if Waylon hadn't sung about it, nobody would know anything about it.

While we were there, I made an offer on a piece of property. I didn't really want a whole county but, it just seemed like the right thing to do.

Back home this afternoon, happy and tired and looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.

Making me a bit home-sick! Great trip.

PS Did you check out Cimarron Firearms there in Fredericksburg?

They have a retail store in Fredericksburg, Texas Jack's Wild West Outfitters. I went by there and it is closed Tuesday and Wednesday. I was there on Wednesday. A lot of the stores are only open Thursday-Sunday since school has started back.

Braunfels is a “different” kinda place … the German flare in Texas is slightly out of place in a good way. There is a nice little restaurant, the Alpine Haus, that does a pretty good job on German food. The schnitzels and sauerbraten were very good the last time we were down there. The best thing though was their Black Forest Cake. Next time you guys head over there try it.

Sounds & looks like a great trip! And kudos to you for leaving the digital psuedo-realm behind & spending your time in the Real World.

EDIT: Um. Said he, from the digital psuedo-realm.

I once went to a little ‘cue joint between Houston and San Antonio somewhere that was amazing. When I grow up and can be like @Geezer I want to spend a Spring or Fall just driving around Texas, seeing the sights and eating some food. Maybe a little bass fishing and shooting mixed in to keep things interesting.

C'mon, I've already got a few places scoped out.

I did an internship in Galveston in '96-'97 - my Lutheran church had a big Oktoberfest each year, and got all their sausage from New Braunfels for the event. Neat German history there in east TX, that I knew nothing about, before arriving.👍

Somewhere around Schulenberg or Weimar?

No clue. Gas station type place with milk crates and butcher’s paper. It was a long week with many adult beverages. But the one thing I remember is that brisket and sausage. Probably a main driver for my decades long smoker and brisket habit. Much to my heart and cardiologist’s chagrin.

Just missed you. Love Gruene, we just spent last weekend there and were around gruene hall last Saturday. This is me, my wife and our best friends last weekend.

I wish our paths would have crossed. Maybe someday.

Im glad to hear you and the wife had a nice getaway, thanks for the pics!

I’m surprised your post didn’t contain a story about a tourist that you suckered into selling you a gun for half its value! I’m sure you were looking.

Or worse..............he has been known to sell a gun that actually belonged to someone else. Ask me how I know.

@Geezer

Sometimes you just have to juggle a few things to keep customers happy.
