It was time to buy some more blades, and I remembered a discussion on the other site that discussed several options. I've used some version of the Gillette Mach 3 blades for at least the last decade, and recently switched over to a Schick Hydro. Recently as in it came with two cartridges and I swapped to the second one today.

Now, I've kept a beard for the last 12 years or so, and work from home. Just means I'm only shaving my neck and once only or twice a week...so I don't need a lot of razors to begin with.

Anyway, decided to give Dorco a shot based on the recommendations of a couple members. They offer 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7 blade options. Some with the trimmer blade, some without. They also have one that takes a battery, but I've newer used one of those. (They also have a nifty travel setup with a razor that has shaving cream stored in the handle).

Checked out their site and they have several items on sale. I wasn't sure which kind of blades I wanted, and ended up ordering a couple different ones. The good news is that even though each style is a little different, all the different cartridges are interchangeable with the different handles.

Bought a 4-blade starter kit (handle and two refills), a 7-blade starter kit (handle and 2 refills) and a 4-pack of of the six-blade cartridges. Found a 20% code and they have free shipping. Total of $9.96 for two razors and eight cartridges. Figured that would let me decide which I like best, even if it takes a whole year to do so. :D

I know Harry's and DSC were also in the post (and somebody said DSC bought their stuff from Dorco), plus a lot of discussion about safety razors and straight blades.

Anyway, feel free to add to the discussion. Whatcha like? And what will you never use again?

I tried the Dorco blades on my DSC and ended up just buying a bulk pack from DSC. The blades weren't quite the same fit and definitely weren't the same quality as the stuff I get from DSC.

I tried Dorco. The quality of the shave was so so. The cartridges kept breaking after 3 or 4 shaves. So no money saved. Would not recommend.

buy a good straight razor, last razor you'll ever have to buy. lasts so long your great grand kids will get a great shave from it.

I've been doing the DSC for awhile. Wife and I both use it. I don't shave too often, long goat tee. Just trim up sides and neck and keep burns stright and clean. Women can reek havoc on a razor, and the DSC lasts a good while with both my wife and I using it. Handles could use a little better quality, but can't have it all right? Matter of fact I need to order another handle. Off to DSC website to get new hardware.

A friend of mine, (who is actually in the grading business so I have no idea how this came about), was recruited/contracted to clean up an overturned CVS tractor trailer. I have enough Gillette Mach III's to last through 2030. Floss too.

I got some dollar shave club razors for Christmas last year "best razor ever....", 6 blade I think. I didn't make it through a refill before the razor broke and I threw the entire mess out.

I can't seem to use anything with more than 4 blades. I have a goatee and shave about every 3 days or so. I think the one I'm using now is a "power glide" I like the vibrating razors. Blades prices piss me off thoroughly but I get a decent shave.

I would love a straight razor but would probably slit my own throat. I used to love going to the Barbour shop and getting a shave. I should treat myself to one in the near future....

I got the DSC for christmas from my mom and I like it so far. Been a gillette mach guy forever.

This post will probably get shit on, but whatever. I got a self cleaning Braun electric razor for Christmas when I was still in the service. Since I had to shave everyday, it was a God-send. I broke one, and bought another. Haven't touched a real razor since my wedding day 10 yrs ago.

DSC is the acronym for you get what you pay for.

I use a very old Gillette safty razor, double edge. The blades are cheap and it shaves the hair off.

Last year, I got in a dirty Santa game a Schick Hydro 5. Before this I had used a Gillette Sensor since the late 80s.
I now use the Schick. It is a great razor. I had tried the Fusion a few years ago and did not like it. The Hydro I love.

5 years ago I got feed up with the prices of disposable refill blades. I went to Classicshaving.com and purchased a safety razor, puck of soap, and a brush. I buy the best blades (Feathers) for less than $5 a 10 pack and I have never looked back. Most of the plastic razors are nothing more than gimmicks and the prices are outragous. A good safety razor blade and good soap make all the difference to a great shave.

For my once a week clean up my neck I started using Harry's and their shave cream as well and have been very happy with them

I went back to a single blade setup two Christmases ago, haven't missed paying for those cartridge blades one bit !

Also, if you haven't tried it, shave secret gives good results. It's an oil you use to raise the whiskers, bought it at the PX. I recommend it for daily shaves. But, if you skip shaving for a day or two, use regular shaving cream, not the SS.
