Looking to pick up a suppressor from another individual (can is with a dealer) but was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on dealers? I normally use Clayton Guns but am looking for something closer to Raleigh. I've never been to Carolina Gunrunners but they seem highly regarded. I'm also currently in CO, but do I just have them send the suppressor to the dealer before I start the paperwork(efile)?

How it is “from another individual” if it’s “with a dealer”?

Where is the dealer?

Are you trying to transfer it to NC? Or CO? Wasn’t sure what CO had to do with it at this point.

The dealer you’re going to pick it up from needs it in their possession before the Form 4 can be submitted.

Individual owns it, but it's in the possession of a dealer. I'm not sure what the deal is but that's what I was told.

Transfer to NC. I'm in CO for work so would have to travel back to NC as I don't think I can transfer it to CO(I'm not a CO resident); basically all communication with dealer would have to be phone or email.

Filing as an individual or entity? If filing as an individual, you won’t be able to file the Form 4 until you can go to the dealer in person. If filing as an entity, you can certify it remotely (assuming you can provide photos and fingerprints from CO).

Not exactly sure how individual owns it but dealer has it in their possession. I have a couple theories, but that’s all they are at this point. It’s currently registered to the dealer? Or the individual? And in what state?

I'm not sure of the specifics; haven't really asked. I don't know who it's registered to, but if I need to be back in NC to do paperwork then I'll have to pass on it anyways(I don't plan on visiting until August and October, and will return for good in March). I was hoping to do an eform but I guess that's a no-go. It's in Idaho.

If it’s in Idaho, and registered to the dealer, it can be sent to NC using a Form 3…no cost except shipping. NC dealer will most likely charge you a transfer fee of $50-$150.

If you file as an entity, it can be done while you’re in CO…if you will roll your own fingerprints and mail them in. Other options are to scan your prints at a Silencer Shop kiosk in CO and use a SS dealer in NC, or scan your prints at a PrintScan location and pay for the .eft file which you could email to the dealer in NC for them to upload into eForms.

I’m hoping this is a new silencer somebody got and is selling before doing their own Form 4. Otherwise it’s a lot of hassle for a used can, which is why there’s very little action in the secondhand market. You’d have to get a heckuva low price to even consider it.

Thanks! Though I'd still need to do a Form 4 once the dealer gets it, correct? I was concerned about the wait time and wanted to get it started before I even head back.

Apparently, it's still new. I didn't ask why he wasn't able to take possession, but I figure it's none of my business anyways.

Well, yeah…assuming you want to legally own it, you’d need it transferred to you using a Form 4.

I was referring to that part having to be in person.
If you’re filing as an individual.

You can remotely certify a Form 4 in eForms if you’re filing as an entity.
