After years of living here and driving by their brewery off 85, each time saying “I should try their stuff,” I finally grabbed a six pack.

I’m impressed.

Not cheap enough to be grass cutting, water substituting, beer. But it’s got good flavor.

This is a good discovery for me as Highland’s Gaelic Ale was growing old. Looks like I’ll give this one a few tours in the fridge.

I’ve been a fan since before they built the big brewery. It used to be on, what is now, gate city blvd. A little place that really just kept the bar stocked.

I’ve really liked the addition of the cans to their stock.

If you’re ever in their bar see if they have the double ought for sale. It’s basically red oak that’s been aged and reduced. Since the alcohol content is so high it’s served in a much smaller glass but absolutely delicious.

There was a place at friendly and Guilford college years ago also that served food. Wish it was still open. The pasta was awesome.

God what was that place called. They had the shuffle boards.

Great beer. Best on tap. Great in a bottle. I can’t drink it from a can. Have to pour it in a glass. Something about cans makes most beers taste off to me.
Same. I just like the portability and ease of refrigeration it offers.

They have a lovely looking taproom I want to go. Its great on draft. Enjoy.
I saw that enlarged bier garten from the highway last time I was up that way. Wish it wasn’t 90 min from me.

The cans will do for now. Maybe one of these days I’ll make an unscheduled stop off of 85 when I’m going that way.

Cans are the way to go for me. Probably nothing more than some placebo effect, but I swear it tastes better. Now, I’m not totally uncultured. I will pour a glass most of the time. But on a hot day like this that spent the first half kicking my butt with yard work, a can suffices.

I’m not a beer person.

But I’m a Red Oak person.

If I have to have beer, it’s Red Oak, Killian”s Red, or (preferably) cider. Guinness will do in a pinch.

I feel like crap after drinking non-red beers, and even after much red. Liquid bread…

it could be the can lining that is giving you the off taste. About 2019 the can lining at most can manufacturers switched from BPA to some olefin polymer lining.

I'm partial to amber beers. Killians and Sam Adam's are my favorites. I really wanted to like Red Oak since the brewery is so close to me, but it leaves me flat. Litterally. The other beers I mentioned have a little bite to them. Not Red Oak, it finishes wet like water, just nothing there. Color me disappointed. I still want to visit the brewery though.

I do like the Gaelic ale you mentioned, it's one of my standbys when I can't find what I really want.

That has been my assumption, too.

Red Oak is some good stuff. First time I heard of it I was up that way buying a truck from a guy. He said his brother worked at the Brewery and brought it to him all the time. He set two brown cardboard cases of longnecks in the back of the truck when I left. Damn that was some great stuff!!! I get it over anything else if it's on draft. I actually prefer the can taste on most beers but did not know Red Oak was in a can so now that's on my pickup list.

I’ll drink Red Oak if they don’t have Gaelic Ale, which is frequent.

First time I had Red Oak was back in the mid 90s when the brewery was still called Spring Garden and was in Greensboro. Used to get sample flights with their bock, Red Oak, and Helle because I couldn’t decide which I liked best.

It's not particularly convenient to most places, but traffic does get jacked up there sometimes, one of these days I'm gonna detour.

I didn’t realize that. I find that beer under 5% abv just can’t quite handle the task it was assigned. For me, anyway.
Agreed. I liked the taste so much i thought i was just over drinking. Then i realized it and felt jipped.

It says online its 5%. I could have swore it was 4.9 or something like that... might have been the hummingbird... it's been a while.

I like going "Red Bird" half humming bird and half Red Oak! the bottles are solid, but on draft is a game changer!

This sounds interesting. I do like the flavor. Just can't make it my everyday beer which isn't a problem anymore as i quit the daily drinking a while ago.

A couple shots of 2a or the mystic i got and im good. Anymore and i become the machine-Burt Kreisher

The Beir gArdEn is fantastic on Friday nights, or at least it once was. Lots of games to play and food trucks.
Not sure if they are still doing that.

At some point we need to meet up and hang out! 👍

I'm barely skilled label cutter who hardly drinks anymore and can't hit a target to save my life...i need friends😇

Done! Sounds like we are cut from the same cloth.

Black oak sounds good. I like heavy beer
Same here, I prefer stouts and porters. A good Hefeweizen is also welcome :)

Everything I’ve had from Red Oak has been fresh and tasty! Every bartender that I’ve talked to says that their guys really take care of the taps and making sure they have a fresh product.
