I just picked up one of these as a plinker/range toy. My first trip to the range, it was PLAGUED with FTE's. I know there are mulitple components that can cause FTE's but I want to look at the most likely first. I ran 36-grain Federal Champion, mainly for the low cost and easy availability. What's your recommendation and experience with ammo for this fun little rifle?

CCI Blazer works great in mine.

I resigned myself that I can't just use "cheap plinking ammo" even though that is the ideal choice for this gun (as I never use it past 25 yards).

The cheap stuff... I don't know what I'll use it for now, since I've grown to care about accuracy in my 10/22s.

CCI Blazer works great in mine.
My 15-22 SBR eats ^this^ stuff just fine, and stays subsonic due to barrel length.

Depending on the noise level I want, I use Blazer or CCI SV in the longer barreled 15-22 pistol.

Mine won't cycle CCI SV, but I blame the 4.5" barrel.

Anything 40 grain HV should run it just fine. I’m partial to blazer and federal auto match. I really dislike lighter weight bullets for 22lr. For suppressed the CCI standard velocity 40 gr is phenomenal.

I don’t bother w CCI mini mags at all. Good ammo but not worth the cost except perhaps if I were carrying a 22 lr it would be loaded with CCI mini mags.

Run 1/2 a sleeve of 40gr CCI Mini Mags thru it and see how they run. If you have any problems break it down and clean and lube it. While you have a chance check the chamber is not rough, has a burr on/in it or such. Also make sure the extractor is fitted properly and not binding. Run the other 1/2 of the sleeve. If it doesn’t come around … S&W needs to be contacted to handle it from there on.

Another vote for CCI Blazer. It has been the best all around .22 for my pistols and rifles, including my 15-22. My second choice is Federal #510 (40gr RN lead), basically Federal’s equivalent of Blazer.

CCI SV is great for improved accuracy and suppressed shooting, and it still functions most semi autos.

It’s probably dirty. Clean the crapnoutnod it and shoot. Any 22 round that you can wiggle the round in the case is prone to issues in semi auto or anything to a degree. But I bet after a solid cleaning what you shot with issue should do measurably better but may not reach par.

I shoot CCI SV 90% of the time and save the match ammo and segmented suppressed stuff for its intended purpose.

Anyone try CCI Tactical? LGS is saying they’re getting great results from it but I haven’t gotten a 300 round box yet.

Anyone try CCI Tactical?
CCI tactical is my favorite. It was developed for the AR 22 platform, specifically the M&P 15-22.
I use it in all my semi autos, don't have any malfunctions and it's consistent and accurate. It's my go-to for function testing.
Upper end of the cost spectrum. 8 to 9 cpr is a good deal, 10 cpr is common.

Another vote for Federal Auto Match👍
Runs great in both the MP15/22 and ATI 1911-22.
Grandson will burn a 300 round box in a day on both with no real issues that I can count on one hand that is minus a pinky 😁
Clean them and run just a bit wet.
I know box of Remy in pic but that was before found the Auto Match has less issues.
