recent acquisition 241 shorts only

I did a test on it 10 rounds, feed, eject, load.. OK
strange though, the bolt after the last round does not close, seems to be hitting the feed plunger on the magazine tube.
IF I loosen the feed tube and pull it rearward, the bolt will then close.

in a way a good thing, with last round hold open, but i do not believe it is the standard operation of the rifle.

the cartridge stop plunger, spring, etc are intact and the plunger does extend into the channel.
I believe this has occurred for some time, by the witness marks on the magazine plunger tip.

Leave it be or ??

thanks in advance.

I have a 22 short only Rem 241... will see how mine works and let you know.

I thought I had the only one!

I will investigate after dinner.

The bolt does not hit the follower, and cannot do so. I cannot imagine what would allow it to hit. It rides in a channel above the bolt.

My bolt hits the magazine follower, which keeps it open after last shot.
do not know 'if' the follower is the issue or the cartridge stop that screws into the side has an influence.
I will try to retrieve from safe tonite for pics....

I posted here as a giggle search pulled up a thread on forum with images of said cartridge stop.
thanks for posts so far...

Not sure on that as i ran 10 rounds through it with no FTF, FtE, FTL
Here are some images

the bolt resting on the follower (if i pull back on the magazine tube the bolt will fall to battery on an empty chamber

the bolt in its rearward position with no cartridges in the tube or in front of the magazine tube follower
(note on both the marks on the follower indicating this has occurred for some time. now looking the follower is not in focus :( )
and i had trouble with the cell camera blocking light into the area, so flashlight used for illumination.

Here is with ONE round in the tube, bolt in rear position, ready to load.. I see the plunger beside the round in its position

i am unsure just how much the side plunger should extend past the guide and IF it should stop the follower...

I "may" find my LR version and exchange tubes and see if this situation changes, but not right now...
or maybe my model 24....

I do thank you for the response.

I found another thread on here that had some images and that follower looks different than mine... so maybe a follower issue?

Yes, I think it is a follower issue. It looks like it is nose-diving, as though it is too short. Could be a weak spring, too. I like the idea of swapping mag tubes and see what happens.

I also have a 24, and another 241, and two Belgian models. Don't you just love these little rifles?

will dig into it further as time allows, appreciate the responses.

? Should the plunger thru the receiver limit the forward movement of the magazine follower?

spit wadding, i think a stronger magazine spring would push the follower even further in the guide....

yes, do like these rifles... a bunch. started with a wheel sight from 58 at the OLD show location in Hickory (on the hill) a LONG time ago....

thanks again, but will interfere with bolt in either 'up" or "down" condition, so unsure about the droop factor
