This man has the correct answer. Buy another rifle instead of butchering this timeless classic!!!I believe the 600 Mohawks were the same bolt configuration as the XP-100. You might have more luck searching on that. I think you may have to replace the complete bolt. Personally, I'd leave it as is. I think there's more value in an original 600. Sell it and buy something else.
I have one and Love it....lemme know what caliber and if you decide to sell it!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please....Personally, I'd leave it as is. I think there's more value in an original 600. Sell it and buy something else.
I say get your boy up to speed on it and do minimal work to it. Take it to a qualified smith and have it deep cleaned. Dad has a 600 in 350rem mag that I drool over every time we pull it out of the safe. I have several modern high end bolt guns but that one is just different. They are awesome rifles from an era when Remington built quality rifles and there are few of them left. I would encourage you to not chop this one up as it is great in factory form. If it was a rust bucket junker I would say hack away and have fun. 600's like your's are rare and there are fewer by the day.It is a very interesting gun. This one is chambered in 243 and we have a few years before my boy is ready to use it but I do like to know what options are out there. It won’t be one that I would sell as it was given to me to give to my son.
