It’s can be a touchy, and interesting, topic. How to “obey” (for lack of a better word) the government while serving the Lord.

My church preaches in an expositional style, taking a book and going through it verse by verse. We’ve been in Mark since the beginning of 2023. Today was Mark 12:13-17.

Our Senior Pastor is on a mission trip at the moment, but our Associate Pastor is no slouch. He has a doctorate in preaching, which I admittedly didn’t know was a thing until he got his. If you’ve never heard a sermon on this topic, here’s our full service from today.

Enjoy the whole thing, or FF to ~15:00 to get the sermon.

Anybody take the time to listen/watch? I know I’ve read it many times, and probably sat through (or even taught) a lesson on it in a small group. But it was interesting to hear it preached.

Yes, sermon ran from about 15 to about 52.

I always thought that Paul’s letter to the Romans was in part to prevent the extermination of Christians and Jews. The Romans didn’t fear God, in their way of thinking they had several and weren't offended that other folks did too, but they were afraid of an uprising of the lower classes. Paul reminds early christians to recognize the government of the day because things of this earth don’t ultimately matter, but having everyone killed would sure put a damper on his ability to spread the word.

Did find the point about the relationship to us being made in the image of God interesting. Expected him to make the leap to saying that God only really cares about your soul, that all the material stuff is rather irrelevant, but he stopped short of that and probably for a good reason that I just don’t know.
