Picked up a RIA GI 1911. Great shooter, terrible hammer bite. I want to get a beavertail grip safety on it, or maybe just trim the hammer.

I've looked into doing this on my own, but I'm not confident that I could do it and have it not look like crap. Apparently there's some fitting and blending involved, and I'm not much of a detail guy.

I made a call to a local guy who does the work for a gun shop near me. Haven't heard back yet.

Can anyone recommend a smith east of Raleigh who could do this for me? I'm in Newport, 28570.

Layout die or sharpie, gauge pin set, quality files and some fine sandpaper and you can do it, there’s not much too involved with fitting up a grip safety
