RIP General Richard “Butch” Neal

I deeply regret the passing, this morning of Marine Corps General Butch Neal. Butch served with my dad in Vietnam, as his artillery Forward Observer for India Company, 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines. A highly decorated Marine, Butch rose through the ranks with ever increasing responsibilities making the Marines an even better fighting force for the USA. He will be missed by all privileged to have served with him.

I got to meet Butch a few years ago, he was the secret weapon the men my dad served with to get accommodations for reunions for the men of India 3/9. When I meet him, he gave a great speech about the action of the men of I3/9 in Vietnam, the recount of Lt. John Bobo and others.
