That time of year again, the start of the motorsports season and, more specifically, the running of the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona.

Three prototype classes, GT pro and am.
Only two manufacturers in the top prototype classes, which sucks that more arent involved (though there will be porsche joining next year)
Corvette running in a 'lower' format than in the past and not looking good in qualifying, be interesting in seeing what happens during the race.

Im pulling for the #9 Pfaff GT3 Porsche team

Put my money on MSR, Simon and Helio for the over-all win.

I'm out in the woods but I should have some free time to check out a few minutes at a time.

Always a favorite race to watch. We've got a friend working on the Pfaff team doing strategy so always pull for them and a buddy driving in it (Skeen #32 AMG) but not sure how competitive the car and team is.

DUDE, tell him to get me a shirt! lol
Ive been really wanting one, but ordering one from them, due to shipping, makes it almost 70 bucks! Im never paying 70 for a tee.

Im watching USA right now, theyre showing last weekends Prototype Challenge race, good battle here at the end!

After this it'll be about time to get the 24 coverage underway!

HOLY CRAP what a last lap

third place car has/had Memo Gidley as a codriver

Last time he was at Daytona, THIS happened

wow, nasty!

I'll ask but he lives in Atlanta so we don't see him often. He built some of the wiring harness on my wife's car and also helps at times with the Motec setup so usually when we run into him (or down at RA).

Great first hour of racing
I can see 48 taking it all
9 is running good in GTDpro

Agreed, Chip has an incredible group of drivers.
He's always got a good stable of drivers, hires good folks, has the racing pedigree

One of his cars, 01, is currently winning.

Pfaff/9 holding top three positions, basically, the entire race.

Been some excellent racing so far, a few bad crashes, and, thankfully, only a few cars out so far. But, dang, it's SO early. Only been 4 hours

Looking at live timing, GTD pro has the top five within 30 seconds of each other. That's closer than it sounds and is likely some great racing. 3-5 are only 8 seconds separating them.

Top 4 in DPI are within TEN seconds of each other - Kobyashi in the 48 car (with NASCAR's Jimmy Johnson) is leading again. Cadillac 1, 2, 3 right now

My buddies car in GTD #32 (Andrews currently in) is in 3rd

If you watched the Michael Fasbender Porsche series on Youtube, Richard Lietz is driving for GTPro #16, lol they just mentioned the series on the stream as I typed this

He is actually Indycar's Jimmy Johnson now. 😁

👍I appreciate the updates, turns out I'm not able to watch it here.
very true, but Id say 99% on here jutst know the stock car side of him

The race claimed some cars throughout the night. It's 6am and things have been shook up
They just restarted after a caution, so the field is bunched up,, but some front runners are no longer.

Chip Ganassi cars had some issues, both 48 and 01 are out of contention but running (22 and 4X laps down...unless a few dozen cautions happen)

100 qualifier last Sat(?) was great. Watched 1st 2 hrs yesterday. Watching now on Peacock.

Fear not @BatteryOaksBilly
There are still Caddys in the race. In fact, the #31 Whelen car is double stinting tires to keep out laps higher speed and stability and they are flying.
The sister car, Mustang Sampling #5, is currently leading.
The 60 Acura car has great mileage and some outstanding drivers.
It's anyone's game right now with just over 4 hours left.

Still a lot of great racing in all five classes, LMP3 is the only one with a driver sort of taking off with the lead

Pfaff team is picking up speed. In past thirty minutes they've cut about 8 seconds off the lead. Again, doesnt sound like much, and theyre still 12.1~ behind leader, but theyre catching up and showing some great speed. Gaining approx half a second per lap

DPi still a great fight, top four within 11.4 seconds right now

8 years with Roush Racing. Won class every year, usually ran 3 to 4 cars in the 24 hr race. One year put 4 cars in the top 10 overall.
Tire changing is tough...repair crew can be non stop for 24 hr when running 4 cars in the 24 hr.

Would love to hear some stories!
Was this with mustangs in the GT class?

Or there was the time Pete Halsmer hit the fence...while running from the motor home to the pits in the fog.

Wow those are some elbows! Guy in the 2 car drove for pfaff previous year, our buddy said he’s an awesome driver and well respected

What a finish!. Our two buddies got first (pfaff, strategy) in gtd pro and third (driver) in gtd

Ending in GTDpro was nuts. Last three laps were outstanding and had me sweating!

Great racing this weekend

Dave - Id be interested in finding out what sort of comfort level the guys, and girls, were in in these cars last weekend.
I understand they dont have heat, is that right? So if it's low 30s and then youre traveling 160+ mph...how cold did they get and how much did that fatigue them
