The 24 Hours of Daytona started today at 3 o'clock on NBCSN. Alex Zanardi is racing in the USA again for the first time since losing both legs! He is in the #24 BMW in the GTLM class.

;)

Zanardi was doing awesome in his first stint (I've not seen anything since NBC stopped airing at 5, I'll pick it back up at 9)

Mazda prototypes got a lot of speed, curious if it'll hold out for the entire race, as Acura was looking great as well as the Action Express guys.

Interesting thing - a lot of these teams are here in NC (or in Rock Hill SC)

If you have a firestick you can watch it on the NBC app.

I dont :(

I'll just wait two more hours and pick it back up

Anything you can tell me from the past two hours? Any big crashes or anyone's car fail and they are out?

The girls in the 57 CAT car just spun the 55 Mazda. Alonzo is 12 minutes in the lead in the Caddy.

the sister car (77) has been so dominant.
Youre saying #10 has a 12 minute lead on second place? WOW

Thanks for the heads up. Ive missed this race the last couple of years for various reasons. Will start watching again at 9pm.

Red flagged! Do they have a bunch of liberals running IMSA or what? Some of these cars may not restart! It's a freaking 24 hour endurance race, not NASCAR. I'm Outraged I tell you, OUTRAGED!

Red flagged for what?
I use over the air and there is no NBC station around here.

I remember about a decade ago they went under red flag...it was the first time in several DECADES that they'd red flagged the event.
Now, it seems, in the past ten years or so, they throw it pretty often unfortunately.

I had planned to go down, the winter weather messed that up...now Im glad I woke up in my warm, DRY bed and not a cold, wet tent lol

First time ever for the race, in 58 years, TWO red flags.

This will, likely, end under red.
What a bummer

Snoozefest.

Ended 11 minutes early, under red.

Really, almost no racing happened in the last 8 hours (approximately) of racing

I am glad I didnt go this year.

First time attending and had a blast last night. There was an hour or so of some decent racing earlier today. However we spent 90% of today in the hotel room or bar...did venture over to the track for the last hour(mostly hang out in the paddocks as things were packed up).

When I go I never get a room on Saturday night. Just take little naps in the car or tent. That way I can get up and see some night racing actions throughout the night.

Ive been half a dozen times or so, never had rain like what happened this weekend.

@Rs1200xl what got you down there? You said it was your first time, had you been a fan for a while or what motivated you to go down?

It's sort of a story, but to make it short...I've always been a big race fan of all forms. As I've watched less and less NASCAR I've taken other series more seriously. IMSA getting a lot of my time due to the engineering and reliability for long races(similar to my work background). Typically I'd throw on the endurance races and watch just to catch racing. Last year I got a chance to tour CORE's shop with the SAE chapter so that got me even more into the sport and pulling for CORE versus just a car manufacturer(Ford is still my team in GTLE but Porsche is a close second).

Over the summer I got to talking with my dad about making the trip. Winters in NJ have been getting to him so a late January trip to FL would get him some releif. I normally wouldn't have gotten a hotel, much less one within walking distance of the track but he insisted I crash with him. It definitely worked out, I stayed at the track until around midnight Saturday(my dad headed back a bit earlier). There were a few places to get out of the wind but a warm bed was welcomed. When we got up at 5am Sunday morning it was an easy decision for us to hang in the hotel for a while. We did get over there to see the drivers head to victory lane then got soaked heading to the hotel, but again warm hotel room to dry off worked out.

Even with the short race and the rain we had a blast. The 4 day passes with garage access was awesome. Great job by IMSA and Daytona putting on an enjoyable weekend.

4 day pass is the key!

Glad you liked your first 24. I am very thankful that my father took me to my first back in 02 (I think it was 02, maybe 03...)

Friends and I use to go to Road Atlanta for the Run Offs each fall.
3 of us are going to the Run Offs at VIR this fall.
Really looking forward to it.

I use to go to the Daytona 200 every year until they replaced the superbikes with 600s. Never been to the 24 but it is on my list.

Yeah I quit watching when they did that

Way back when,,I got a free ticket to the 24 hour race. This was back before the track was lit up and I had to work during the day, so I got there at about O dark thirty.. I lasted about an hour.. All I saw was headlights taillights and flames from the tail pipes..Then I went home.. I remember reading back then in the newspaper that the lighting of the Speedway was the largest single lighting project in the USA at that time.. I cant imagine what the power bill is like when they turn them on..
