Went to lowes and the guy looked at me like I had 3 heads. I don't plan on reloading anytime soon so I'm trying to use my current workbench as a cleaning station/work station for my guns. Also, partly because the space for a new one would be inconvenient and I would have to move the mrs car every time I wanted to use it.

so, I'm looking for a rubber type material that I can put overtop the plywood. Hopefully the photo will attach so you guys can see what I'm working with

Next time your in lowes look for carpet tiles in the flooring section.

This is what I have on my workbench at work. Had some scraps left over from the last time I laid carpet tiles, and they work great.

I think I would prefer rubber though, because the carpet hangs onto little pieces of metal and shavings and stuff from drilling, whatever.

Some of the higher end ones are rubber backed,,, I just like the carpet Better, if one gets stained to bad just replace it

That might be beneficial since I'm still using it for home DIY projects

I used some leftover carpet padding I had laying around. It's foam on the bottom and dense non-woven fabric on top, about 3/16 thick. works great.

Lowes sells a black ribbed rubber runner made to protect carpet. It is sold by the foot and is about 30" wide I believe.

Carpet tiles will be lighter for putting up and down than the rubber bit the carpet would absorb oil so just get some extras to replace when needed

I use a cut section of a workout equipment mat. I got three section this big from one mat. You can find them cheap on Craig's list sometimes. Tractor Supply has several kits of mats that will work also.

I like carpet squares for working on things too, especially when cutting - they have a pretty stiff back, but you have about a 1/4" or so before getting to it, not easy to cut all the way through and ruin whatever youre on (floor, table, bench etc)

Home Depot does NOT sell them any longer in the stores, this will be a Lowes only item

Do you have that glued or anything?

this is an idea, too cover my entire workbench or just a little section.

No it lays flat and is gripy and stays in place no need for adhesive.

Ok good to know, have you been happy with it thus far?

Yeah it works great. Keeps firearms scratch free and wipes off easy for cleanup. You can get a burn/melt mark if you touch it with a heat gun/soldering iron or such but overall it tough..

TS sells stall matts for $40. 3/4" thick

There's a guy at the Anderson Jockey Lot that sells foam rubber. I think some of the Army/Navy Stores do as well. But you may want something firmer. How about that grippy stuff you put in drawers or toolboxes?

That was actually my first thought since I just picked up my new tool chest from lowes but they alll seem to be small pieces. I could only find replacement pieces for drawers, no rolls or anything.

I've got some cork pieces, and on one bench I covered it in canvas. Found some Japanese woven paper wall covering that l like on another section of bench.

If you have a rock quarry near you hit them up for old belt material......it is considered hazmat for them if /when they have it taken out.....may have to do some cutting but a razor blade and straight edge will get it done......best part free!

You got a lot of drills...

Lol, my dad does HVAC for a living so one thing ingrained in me is that you can never have enough Dewalt. Only 3 though, a 2 normal drills (one is brushless) and an impact drill, I want a hammer drill though so I need to pick one up.
